Ignition Coils, Wires and Spark Plugs Suggestions
Hi All,
I've been looking through the forums lately due to my car having a little trouble starting. I figured since I am about to hit 60K, I need to change out all my spark plugs, ignition coils, and wires.
I was trying to see what replacement parts I could use. I saw several threads about buying the parts from http://www.finishlineperformance.com but I saw the same parts at Advance Auto and they were cheaper!
Am I missing something here?
Advance Parts
Ignition Coils: Click Here ($24.79/each)
Wires: Click Here (couldnt find on site)
Spark Plugs: Click Here ($19.99)
Rosenthal Mazda (Finishlineperformance)
Ignition Coils: Click Here ($39.95/each)
Wires: Click Here ($64.95)
Spark Plugs: Click Here ($124.95/set of 4)
Any suggestions/thoughts????

BHR if you have the money. I regret not doing it.
IMO I'd go with the OEM coils. Considering their importance on the engine (especially on a rotary) I'd just have a hard time going with an off brand one to save $40.
For plugs go with the NGK's you can get at Advanced Auto. They rock.
For plug wires I'd go with NGK as well.
This is the combo I have on mine and my car runs flawless.

Do you guys seriously think Mazda make their own coils? No they don't. Some company made them for Mazda.
I have those BWD coils in my garage, not installed yet, I checked it. It even have Mazda's part number stamped on the coil body. Latest revision. it even came from Japan. so yes, its the EXACT same coil as "Mazda's", not "Generic", at a much cheaper price.
I will use them on the next coil change, maybe another 10-15K miles.
one problem with Advance Auto is that, they don't stock their parts on regular basics, Now they are out of stock, so good luck waiting on the next stock.

Stuck in a love triangle
I am able to buy 4 plugs, 4 coils, and 4 plug wires (all OEM) for just shy of $300. I can't seem to find anything out there (OEM) for less than that unfortunately.

Those BWDs aren't the same coils...they probably say "replacement for" Mazda part number...the part number on them is E1001. Even BWD's website says that this coil has the "same form fit function as OE coil." It's definitely aftermarket.
But anyway, it seems like the prices I'm looking at for the replacement of all 3 components (coils/plugs/wires) is only about $50 less than what you can get them for from Finishline. Still trying to see if I can get all this down closer to $250 without going aftermarket but I think $300 is going to be the bottom

its the same coil ...
why can't an importer import parts from Japan? and sell them at lower price?
Just like spark plugs, Is it cheaper to buy from Mazda or its cheaper to get them from say, CRH? So are those plugs aftermarket? well you can call them that cuz it doesn't have the "Mazda's box", but we all know its the same.
Same idea with the coil.
Like I said earlier do you guys really think Mazda manufacture their own coils? in fact most if not all Auto manufacture does not make their own coil. Someone else do it for them. Denso, Bosch, etc etc.
I have it right here in my room. I even took a pic and uploaded it to Facebook.
the only problem with this is that (again) Advance Auto parts don't stock this coil often, so good luck trying to get them

As in, there are a lot of politics involved in this industry that 99.9% of us have no clue about. Why do you suppose the manufacturer is not listed on the OEM coils, starters, alternators, etc., while the manufacturers for other things like the fuel pump resistor, MAF sensor, Baro sensor, etc., are?
Which business dynamic might cause such distinctions to exist?
Which business dynamic might cause such distinctions to exist?
but if the coil has the newest Mazda's part number, then I guess it should meet the "latest" Mazda spec. Its just not selling them thru Mazda's channel.
