ESS completely encased around the sides?

ESS completely encased around the sides?
I went to clean my ESS and saw that it was completely encased around the sides. Seems like that keeps it pretty clean, but is that normal? The last owner said the engine had been replaced. Maybe that's what you get with a reman? All the photos and diagrams I've seen show it exposed, not encased.

Yes the newer front covers have the ESS mount that encases it. It is that way on the Series II Renesis as well.
