OK, as of right now, i am stuck with my 10W7 until i get more money to buy a different sub, which won't be for a while. So, my question is for anyone who has experience building enclosures for the JL 10W7, what size box, and i mean exact cu. ft. and type (ported, sealed) will give me optimum performance? i have 500W RMS powering it, but i just don't seem to have the right enclosure. A local car audio dealer in my home town said that i shouldn't go by JL's website for enclosure recommendations, so i want to know what size box and type (exactly if possible) will give me the best sound quality, thump, and tightness (i listen to a ton of metal and hardcore like Unearth, Trvium, Slipknot, Dry Kill Logic, etc.) so please, can someone who has a good amount of knowledge with this sub help me out? Thanks a lot.

If you want best sound quality always go with sealed enclosures(most accurate & tighter bass responce) & go with the recommened cuft size box from the manufacturer because it's been lab tested by them for the optimal results. If you want SPL then go with different size box!

go to JLAUDIO website. call and ask for tech... i do all the time.. i have 10w6v2's site says .5-1.0cu ft... that to me was kinda broad.. i called and they told me .65 cu ft sealed would be the best for my application.. call, they're very helpful.

I'd be curious to here why your local guy says not to use the recommendations of the company the makes the product.
That sounds like a good way to get people to have him build the boxes.

You may want to check the volume of your box using a box calculator like this

Also, you mentioned you have an 500w RMS. If the amp is not truly putting out 500w, you may not have enough power.

But if you decide to go with the JL recommendations, go to JLAUDIO.COM,
Go to the subwoofer section.
Find your sub type/size.
Open the PDF file.
It tells you everything you need to know.
The 10w7 is 1.25cu.ft/sub in a sealed enclosure and 1.5cu.ft/sub in a ported enclosure.

They even give you measurements for the boxes.
Or you can make your own measurements and get the same cu.ft. using the sub box calculator.

I'd go with a aperiodic sub box. They are hard to make, but they have insane potential and SQ.

i have decided to no longer go to that one audio dealer who told me not to go by JL's specs. i went to another shop down the street and they have some computer program that spit out the exact dimensions for the optimum enclosure for my sub and for my car. cost 40 bucks for them to do it (took over an hour to do everything) but it is worth it. and this dealer doesn't even sell JL audio. thanks for the input everyone. i think i am gonna have something to really work with. this guy told me that with these specs, this thing will pound hard as hell and be loud too. i am going to trust his word when i get everything done (box, false wall, amp rack) i will post some pics. again, thanks for all the help and input.
