Hey guys,

I got this new iPhone 3G and I want to connect it to my RX-8 as my as possible.

So I first started looking around in the forum but I didn't find anything to answer my questions, that's why I'm starting a new thread.

1) Is there a good iPhone holder so I can see it when I drive and that would connect it to my stereo and charge it in the same time... or simply hold it in place ?

2) Is there a good way to connect the iPhone to the car stereo, like a bluetooth device that would be plugged in the AUX plug of the stereo ? Or anything else that has proven to work well ?

for the records, I have the optional MP3 radio that was offered when I bought the car (it's a 2005).

there are plenty of threads that discuss connecting iPhones.... they are all iPod threads mostly, but most of them have info about iPhones as well..... the information is here.

as far as mounting... get a Panavise mount and a $5 cell phone clip from wal-mart and there ya go!

 

I have mazdas ipod adapter in mine. the problem is that the screen on the head unit doesn't display song information and when you plug in your ipod/iphone you cant change the song from the ipod/iphone anymore. so you have to pick the song or playlist then plug it in. its annoying. there may be better aftermarket options out there. But, the iphone 3g does work and you dont really need something to hold it with because you dont use it for changing the song/playlist anyway.

 

I used a DICE iPod Integration kit with my iPhone for a while.. until it proceeded to render my iPhone nonfunctional.

 

Thats why u shouldn't even get the iPhone in the first place ~~

I use the audiolink and it works great. I got it from www.therpmstore.com. I think there's still an rx8club discount if you buy it from that site. If you want to display video from the iphone on your nav screen, you can use the AVElectronic video interface.

I was hoping to find a bluetooth device so I don't need to actually plug it.

But the Audiolink device is much talked about in the forum so it can't be bad.

However, I wonder where you made your wire come out? Does anyone have a picture of their set-up?

And what about the installation, is it rather simple?

Man it's so hard to get a decent answer in this forum...

half of the replies are just people saying you're stupid for asking the question, and feel like they're funny in the process... then half of the remaining replies are people drifting away from the original question because they read something they feel they need to comment on (as if anybody cared - ex: you don't like Apple stuff... ok thanks for sharing that with us).

That makes it 25% of potentially helpful replies, and universal rule of probability makes your chance of getting a answer that will actually solve the original problem become almost nul.

I've been using ProClips for years now. You pick a car mount specific to your car and then a holder specific to your phone and pair the two up. I really don't care for the holders they have that clip to AC vents, but they do have a console side mount one for RX8.

Concerning the device holders and mounts, ProClip has exactly what I'm looking for!!
I contacted them and they said they'd get an holder for the iPhone 3G at the end of August (2008 or course).

Concerning the rest, Audiolink seems to be a useful device but that's still a wired solution.

I like the set-up that was in Cyclone's post' third link, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for.
However, the comapny manifacturing the bluetooth device he's using in the set-up has gone bankrupt or something...

But I've been hearing alot about Parrot in various posts...
So i'll check their devices out.


When I'm done I'll post pictures of my set-up too

Are you looking for a bluetooth device to play music? In that case it will not work because the Iphone is still not A2DP enabled, so you cannot get stereo music streaming through bluetooth.

I use a motorola T305 speakerphone unit, that is very small and sits on top of the streeing coloumn, and wired into the cigerate lighter to keep charging at all times. So there are no wires between my iPhone and the car, and this unit is very discreet. It has worked well for me so far.

Another thing about the iphone 3g is, if you want to use it as a music player and a phone in the car, then plugging it in as a Aux devide, the 3.5mm jack is better than using the ipod connector. Because of the new firmware upgrade, you can now listen to your phone through the cars speakers using the 3.5mm jack/aux in, and also be able to just speak in the car, and the built-in mic of the phone will pick up your voice. This couldnt be done before, because the mic would switch off when the phone is connected via the 3.5mm jack, but now you can. This way you can have it play music, and then connect a call - all through your factory speakers. I am not sure if it will work this way if you connect it using an ipod connection, rather than a regular aux connection.

well i just confirmed it. With the 3G iPhone, you don't need any fancy Bluetooth setup if you have the Audiolink.

When plugging in through the headphone jack (which didn't work with the old iPhone...or maybe just didn't work with pre-2.0 software) it now allows the person on the other end to speak through the speakers. I can speak normally while driving and the person can hear me just fine, and I can now hear them just fine.

I just saved a couple hundred dollars and lots of install time from this method rather than installing a pain in the *** bluetooth adapter.

Glad the info helped. It is the 2.0 software update that makes this possible. The really nice thing is, even when i am out at the gym or biking, i dont need to use that low grade earphone that apple provide. I can just listen with my own headphone but just speak normally and phone's mic captures the voice very clearly. So I am also planing on moving into a car iphone adapter like the Audiolink, but I am only looking for one that can control the ipod features/charge the phone. Just have to wait and see!

But I have two questions :
1) What do you suggest to use to connect the iPhone to the car stereo through 3.5mm Jack?

2) There's something I'm not getting: With the setup you described in the second part of the message, which is to simply connect the iPhone with 3.5MM jack to aux input in the radio, so the speakers play music and also let you hear the calls on the speaker, and for the microphone you use the iPhone's one, THEN why do you need that Motorola device for?



BTW: I contacted ProClip and they said they're coming out with a iPhone holder that will charge the iPhone 3G in the end of August.
