Question License plate relocation

Has anyone here relocated their front license plate? I was planning on moving mine on the left side of the front bumper (when you face the car), like on the EVO VIII. I also plan on removing that faux plastic grille on the front.

I bought the front license holder for the EVO VIII (part #MN126768, about $20) and mounted the plate on the driver's side, below the fog light. I made brackets from sheet metal and attached it using 3 bolts on the airdam skirt (the unpainted black plastic piece below the front bumper). Two of the bolts pre-exist, but I had to make one hole in the airdam skirt, where it goes up and behind the bumper (it's pretty much invisible). The thing is relatively rigid and the curvature of the EVO license holder matches the RX surprisingly well, though you do lose about 1" of ground clearance up front.

I've successfully done this for 13 months. How long can my luck hold out?

Gamera, very nicely done. No matter what, the '8 is ugly with a plate on the front. Your solutions is about a tenth as ugly as the stock mount. Thanks for sharing this.

Just got tagged with a $25 fixeruper ticket when parked on the street in Westwood, by UCLA. Like my 14yo says, "Hey, that's 25 RX-8 runs in Initial-D (we were at the arcade) or 50+ runs if you don't swap your card or keep winning!!". Needless to say, I'm headed for a Mistubishi dealer!

^^^ agree. Makes the front look unbalanced - lack of symmetry etc
But if you're happy thats all that matters

In the UK we have to have a front plate and they are huge! I've ordered a new one, smaller than normal, so as not to completely ruin the look of my INGs bumper.

Yeah, no place looks good for a license plate on the front of these. I hate it and have dodged it even though I got a warning ticket for not having one along with front side window tinting, I never fixed it.

I tried relocating the license plate to the windshield, but my dad threw a fit and I was forced to put it back where it was, on the faux grill. I think it's really stupid, but putting the license plate on the windshield made it look ghetto.

I really like what you did with the evo plate holder. I ordered one yesterday (wasn't in stock - go figure). So now I have two questions. What are your brackets like and is the top of the plate holder attached to the bumper? I thought if it wasn't attached it would rub the bumper. I was thinking about a black foam double stick tape? thanks for the idea, (frig)

the plate relocation from the Evo does not look good at all....it actually looks more out of place then centered on the grill.

Everybody has their own opinion. At least we all agree on the car of choice!

I wonder if it would be legal to somehow have the plate molded/painted into the front bumper.. as if it's one piece... but look exactly like the real license plate.

I think the Foreign plates look much better than the US versions..especially California USA. Our plates are bucktooth looking thing on the 8s... shiny white ugly thing.

Can't really said that there is a good way to mount the front plate... Guess now we have an additional choice.

Good Job

I was eventually going to pursue a white theme on top of my titanium gray '8, including a white grille. I was thinking that it would reduce the buck-tooth-ed-ness of black grille with white plates. Also, I think the INGS and MS kit come with a piece of plastic to cover the rebar. If that is true, it could be mounted onto that instead of using the Mazda mounting kit.

Oh yeah I wanted to relocate the license plate because I don't want it blocking in air for my impending front-mount.

A possible way would be to have such a sticker license plate option that is available in several European countries. The following pic shows a solution that I'd be very happy with if I'd be forced to put on the front license plate.

No. I wouldn't want something like that. It looks kind of tacky. Plus, I hate using heat guns to remove stickers.

I want something I could bolt on and off. I'm actually thinking about relocating it from the grille to the top of the bumper.

I'm not sure how will that not look "tacky"
Why would you want to remove that sticker plate anyway?

Not in CA, got a ticket once b/c of that. Specially at downtown L.A., they will give u a ticket for not having a plate on the bumper. Prob has something to do with those traffic cameras.
