You have to remove the centre of the dash from the car to cut it (unless you're very brave). To do that, you have to remove stuff starting with the console and work your way to the centre piece (we think).
If you intend to do this, watch for the hidden screw! It's talked about in the TSBs (lots of dealers didn't know about it and damaged dash parts trying to remove them - hence the TSB was issued).
Mazda specifies using a fancy cutter that uses ultrasound, I think, in their directions included with the Nav tray. We will probably just use a knife and/or jig saw (as most dealers will do also, as they don't have the special cutter - $$$$).
The Nav. tray is intended for use with the many aftermarket Nav and information displays, available primarily in Japan, but now appearing all over (even here in Canada!). Maurice is going to use it for the Stage 3 display. When installed properly, it looks stock (because it's a Mazda part, I guess). Well, like a Mazda OEM option.
