Increasing Air Flow:Quantity & Quality-Intake,Midpipe,Exhaust

CAVEAT
I have spent the last week wading through past threads on this site and others. Trust me when I say the term "ad nauseum" has been earned. So don't give me "F"ing newb <insert juvenile insult>...try searching" I HAVE. If I missed the comment you left on the fifth page of a thread six months ago I apologize for my transgression in advance. But immature comments like that only server to perpetuate the problem. Now they only care how to retaliate instead of how to avoid being a nuisance in the future.

Guess that's a big soapbox for a first-time poster. Showing it already

Moving on... I've had my 8 for about 6 months and I'm ready to make some simple mods. I'm not a big racer, I just want my car to sound better and maybe have a little more fun driving it... and if I can get a few more MPG you sure as hell won't hear me complain. With that said, I'm not going to choose one brand over another because I can get 2whp more. I simply need quality parts that will last.

Chosen mods:

(Now)
Exhaust - MS
Intake - REVi+air duct
HF CAT - ?

(Near future)
Short Throw - Axial
Flywheel - ?

I'm pretty confident with my choices for the exhaust and intake (though input is welcome). It's the cat I'm worried about. I was planning on going with the SR Motorsports cat. Seems like the RP Supercat is the fan favorite, but I'm concerned it may be too loud for me. Plus it apparently smells worse. But today I came across some threads where guys complained their SR cat only lasted about 20k. Not to mention the price difference between the two. While I am willing to spend the money to purchase what best suits me, it would be great if I could avoid being unhappy with my $400 or $500 hunk of metal. It seems to me that no matter what subject or product I am researching, one critcal piece of information is missing from the answer most people give. How hard were you driving your car after installing the part you are praising or bashing? rotorheadA says "I've had my SR cat for 9yrs and 230k miles and never had one problem". Then rotorheadB says "Well the inside of my SR cat collasped shooting trash out the tailpipe and killed a dog. I'll never buy from SR again". Well if rotorheadA never tops 6000rpm to save on gas and rotorheadB was on a track pushing just over 9000rpm when the dog exploded it feels somewhat relevant. So (drawing to my incredibly longwinded point) here is what I'm looking for...

Personnal experience with a high flow cat; good, bad, or other. But more importantly what type of driving you were doing to reach that opinion. I only need to ensure my parts will hold up to everyday driving and some moderate back road driving once or twice a week. I hope I get some useful input soon. There is a couple grand burning a hole in my pocket and I'm iching to spend it.

Let the "newb" bashing begin.....

Cool

I have most of those mods - except the Revi, I just have the stock box with a revi-scoop on the front.

If you're not going F.I. you can take some of the cat out (the part that doesn't matter....) and get the benefit (however small) without the cost. Sounds good feeding my Borla.

Briefly had a RP hi-flow "Super"cat - lasted about six weeks, then got very noisy. An inspection found the "cat" had become a "pipe"....gonzo, nothing left, metal substrate blown clean out.

so far i am happy with my supercat. i have had it about 5k miles and havent had an issue. i have been inside another 8 with the sr and ms dual can and it sounded great. it was noticeably quieter then my rp and greddy. but again i'm happy with it and i hope it doesnt only last another few thousand miles.
