AEM cai or Revi?

Hey I was going to order the Revi and the ram duct but I was looking at the thread on the AEM cold air intake. Has anyone recieved the AEM yet and if so which setup does everyone think will be better the AEM cold air or the Revi and ram air?

I have the REVi with the ram air duct, but I can tell you that from the design of the AEM intake one major difference is going to be sound. The AEM will be much noisier. As far as power I believe it'll be negligible between the two. I personally like the clean "sleeper" look of the REVi, but if you like the bent tube in an empty engine bay space, go for the AEM.

I prefer the stock look of the revi I was just looking at the other thread and the peak hp gains on the aem. And I made the assumption that most people on the forum like the revi better then the hks?

Why?
The way it looks it is more like a hot air intake... or was there any dyno proof that shows it making more power than the REVi?

Here's a video clip we made after the install last week. You can get a feel for what the REVi sounds like since I don't yet have an aftermarket exhaust. If you've ever heard a ricer civic with a "cold air intake" you know what an AEM sounds like.

(rather large file ~123 MB)
http://www.verlinden-productions.com...d/MOV00001.MPG

As far as the HKS goes, the guy who I worked with to install the REVi in my car has it. The box around the filter has an opening on the front, but I believe that ends up being sealed by the hood closing. Then it uses the stock VFAD to get the colder air in. He's actually ordered the RB duct to see if it'll work with his HKS and it should be in by tomorrow. I'm sure one of us will post the results here.

I like the looks of the AEM filter there but wouldn't you have to worry about sucking water there?

So basically for the aem we have no tests that show how much increase it offers all we have to go on is the manufacters claims?

Pretty much, but you can guess that no intake is really all that superior to the other since the 8 is a challenge to get cheap horsepower anyway.

As far as water getting in there... I'd say the REVi and HKS are the safest in regards to that. The AEM will need a bit more frequent oiling because it'll be in the elements more whereas the other two have their filters protected under the hood.

the AEM will have more 'cool' factor because of the shiny tubing under the front grille

performance-wise though, i think they're pretty much even.

the RB setup gives a very nice 'OEM quality' look, with the engine cover on, it is just clean and understated :D

how is it hot air? its a completely sealed off from the engine bay...the hks (U.S.) test car with legamax exhaust and racing suction dynoed at 191 to the wheels...

main difference is price, and the majority of people on this forum are biased.

Unless there were before and after dynos of intake only, that doesn't prove much. Way too much variability inherent in tests like that.

Yeah, the AEM filter is high enough off the ground to have to worry about that. It's just that the filter element will have a bit more exposure to the elements than the ones that have the filter under the hood (K&N, RB, HKS, etc.). As a result, the maintenance (cleaning, oiling, etc.) will be a bit more in the long run.

Does the AEM's filter pop out behind the "dummy" grill or in the opening just below it?

theres also a bypass valve if needed. dont worry about the water.
most people will tell you to get RB intake... i have the RB intake, but there are no actual numbers yet for either.

the hks intake looks very nice and you shouldnt rule that one out.
honestly most people on this thread will be biased towards RB with good reason, but dont get influenced by most peoples' blind faith towards them.
AEM is louder, high pitched squeel at very high rpms, but deep and throttly at lower rpms. rb is a deeper throttle noise throughout the rpms. they both sound excellent.

Have the HKS, very well build and sounds nice.
Was a "helping" hand on a Revi install and sound nice to.
What to choose if I would be doing it over again?
Really don't know....
HKS does not need a bumper removal as the Revi does.
(Don’t let this stop you sins it is real easy)
Revi looks very stealthy in the engine bay might help if you have a paranoid dealer.
HKS is more $$
Revi is less $$ even with the intake duct.
Will install a RB intake duct with the HKS intake tonight when the ups man shows up.

I'll see him this weekend, so I'll be able to vouch for him. My one concern is if the HKS can get a good seal using the hood to get the full effects of the duct. Maybe he'll do the ol' "smoke the cigarrette" test again. He almost lost his when testing for the suction of the RB duct on my car.
