One of the most common issues these cars exhibit is poor performance resulting from a bad ignition component. Symptoms include power loss, poor fuel economy, and misfires. Over time this can lead to engine damage. If your check engine light is flashing under acceleration, you are misfiring. Replace all 3 main components of the ignition system together for trouble-free performance. The kit includes the following:

4 genuine Mazda RX-8 R3 ignition coils
Others offer cheaper, aftermarket coils. They generally last a year or two, then fail. The main issue with them is you are installing a different coil, but doing nothing for the dwell time. Dwell time is the time it takes for the coil to recharge between firing, and is a critical parameter in tuning an engine. When changing to an aftermarket ignition coil but not adjusting for dwell time, it is possible to alter ignition timing in a detrimental way. Because most of these cars run the stock ecu, there is no way to adjust for this. We only recommend genuine Mazda OEM coils. This is the updated design and we have yet to see one fail.

NGK Spark plug wire set
More affordable and better quality than the original Mazda wires, we like to use the NGK Blue Cables on each motor. They are a direct replacement. Each wire is individually identified for convenience and they fit just like stock.

4 NGK Laser Iridium Spark plugs
The final component in the ignition system.We only recommend the oem spark plugs in these cars. Spark plugs should be replaced yearly or when there is a noticeable loss of performance.

DEI Heat Shielding
We include genuine DEI Reflect-A-Cool self-adhering thermal barrier to place on the underside of the ignition coil bracket. Since the coils sit on the motor, they are prone to heat soak. The reduces the heat transfered to the coils and prolongs their service life.
