A friend of mine was lucky enough to catch the 8's going by on highway 1 while he was shooting a little video project for school (he's a film student). He only caught 3 short clips and I put them up in insanely high resolution, so these are only for obsessives with fast internet connections. For those of you wondering what a Renesis sounds like, check out the third one :D
By the way, he's a mustang driver and thought the 8 was only "okay" looking in pictures I've showed him, but he thought it was really sweet looking in person.

Hmmm... my player normally identifies quicktime and just points out that onl SQV1 has been reverse engineered so it can't play... but this file gets a kinda guesswork effect where it complains there is no header and then tries to use the Sony DV codec...
If anyone can play these, please repost them in DivX or mpeg4... or somthing standard!!! Don't sacrifice the res though... LOL.
Rant
Why do arts people insist on using Quicktime... It's not a bad format, but Apple just won't let people make players... sigh... I'm sure I'll get to see these one day....

Yeah, I dunno about the formatting. I'm using qt6 on my mac. If anybody wants to resample these into mpeg or divx or what have you, I'll even host them if you send them to me (I may have to think twice about windows media though)
Originally posted by wakeech hey baby, that's why i'm here!! :D i'm a Mac user, so don't go badmouthin' em. :D
anyhoo, that sounds SOOOOOOOOOO SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!! that's like 3k rpm...
i wonder what the scream'll be like in rev buzzer territory...??
Firstly, if I can play them or not, I thank whoever got these shots, it's great to have people in the right place who think of us... but...
Although I like to think different...as a MAC user can you can tell me how I can play these files, then I'll nolonger have anything to badmouth apple for.
"Get a MAC" isn't an acceptable answer.... People think I am anti-microsoft, but this isn't true at all... I'm anti monopoly, and from where I'm sitting I need a MAC to play these... and that makes the format way more evil than even microsoft video formats, and I feel fully justified in badmouthing it... I forwarded it to a friend who's a Windows XP loonie... here's the response:-
"
>Its apple shittime.
>
>Nothing can play it except Quicktime. Its >good old apple lock in format.
>Why do you think we windows users all hate >it ?
>
>You're f***ed.
"
Not very positive! Where to go from here?

Xmat... It since somone above has reported that they don't play on Quicktime 6 on a PC,... It's gonna have to be somone with a MAC to convert them.
If anyone has the software to convert them, perferably to mpeg4/DivX and upload them to the incoming directory on "ftp.fsck.co.uk" (L/P = rx8/mazda) then I'm sure a number of people would be eternally greatful. I will host them along with the other stuff that's in there...
If you can do it, keep the RES, and I'll make lower res versions too for those people without broadband.
There's quite a lot of content now, take a look.

Sorry about the formatting issues, all. I personally can't stand proprietary platform-specific formats either, although at least there's a windows version of quicktime -- no idea why it doesn't seem to want to play these movies. I guess I have the same problem with tons of windows format videos that I can't watch despite there being a WMP for mac :P I wish there really were a format that everybody could watch equally easily -- and DivX doesn't count as the DivX codecs for mac right now are *****.
But anyway, I'll ask him tonight if he can export in something more readable for the rest of you and get them up.

Cool...
Perhaps we could find a common format... the ffmpeg project has source code for a divx/mpeg4 codec that kicks ****... and since OS/X is basically BSD underneath, it should be pretty trivial to port...
Anyone here an MAC/OSX programmer?
Appologies for my previousl "rant"... I like Apple's stuff and I'd have one of their laptops if it weren't for the single mouse button! I just find it reprehensible to create a file format that you announce as a published standard... then when everyone is using it, release a series of new versions that are closed and incompatible...! Apple don't even release a DirectShow codec for windows (which would allow me to use it under Linux too... at least on x86).

Strange...these play just fine on my WinXP laptop. It may have something to do with the fact that I have Cleaner5 installed, which converts Adobe Premiere movies into other formats and bitrates - including several QT formats. I could see what I can do, if no one else has tackled this.
I was able to play the videos on an old Windows98 with Quicktime6. I don't have Cleaner5 or anything else. I think all that may be needed for the Quicktime6 users is to download some plugin or something?

Well, if you can convert it into mpeg4/divx, that would be cool...
It appears that some people with QT6 can play it... and some cant.
I'm gonna taunt the apple people again... where do I get QT6 for Linux?

apparently there is a page which specializes in this sort of Linux thing, he says "if he knows what he needs, it's all there"....???? i'm not so literate...
Converting ATT...anyone want to host 'em FTP? PM me the login so I can upload, and I'll reply via PM when they're up so's you can publish the URL here.

there's QT4 Linux there, and he says with all "the right codecs" you should be able to do QT6 stuff no prob...???
Good try, but it's like an AVI file... it can have any number of codec's used in it... and this is a library that reads the file... that doesn't mean there is any way to actually play the file...
You could use it to upset MAC users my making quacktime files with mpeg4 video in them... but that's not really any use. LOL.

Oh crap, you mean that's no good? That's exactly what I've just spent the last couple of hours figuring out how to do! I now have QT files in MPEG4 format....so what do we want? I could not find any stand alone mpeg4 encoders, just plugins for Adobe and Cleaner to make either .mov or .avi mpeg4.
I do have a GREAT mpeg-2 encoder, but mpeg4 was specifically requested. I suppose mpeg2 is a good fallback plan.
Okay, I am, as we speak, uploading the videos as mpeg-2. I merged them into one video, and it is just over 13 MB. I think it looks pretty frikin good, too.
As I'm renowned for posting off the topic item, I thought I'd enter this little Debate. I have a 768MB 700Mhz PowerPC G4 which ***** on every computer I've ever seen, and I'm 15 so you can imagine just how high that number is. MAC=Mean And Clean
PC=Prickly C*^T!

this may take a while...
WHY do people insist on doing 4 downloads at the same time? If you do that you are contending with yourself... and 4 downloads take 5 times as long... plus you take 4 slots on the server meaning 3 other people get rejected!
Just do them in sequence and be happy that you only corrupted one when my ADSL goes down.
