RX-8 Comic Book?
Look at what I stumbled across: http://blog.wired.com/cars/index.blog?entry_id=1518927
So apparently Mazda's marketing department is full of 6 year olds that think cars that hug and comic books are cool.
Betting that young men love comics (sorry, graphic novels) as much as cars, Mazda has placed its RX-8 in the center of the new Revved series of books.
The car derives its superpower from magical metal originally found in "the Holy Grail, Joan of Arc's armor and King Arthur's Excalibur." (Nice that the politically-ambivalent metal works both for and against England.)
The Revved series will also be a TV show from Fox (no doubt debuting after NASCAR) as well as an online property. Mazda makes great vehicles, but it is a surprise that the company was chosen for product placement over American manufacturers for the books. They could have had fun with a super Chevy Pinto or Ford Focus.

Hmm.. good idea.. sadly the art friggin' sucks. Hopefully they will have guest artist's doing covers who will push sales to keep the book alive for awhile. So the creators of this series remembered that old old TV shower V.I.P.E.R. and rehashed it a lil bit. I'm willing to bet one of the creators own's a Mazda Rx-8 and hence they aproached Mazda. That or Mazda heard about BMW's foray into the comicbook world and figured they'd give it a shot to see if it increase's sales or atleast its branding in the minds of teenagers and 20 somthings.
I see this lasting about 6 issue's before the plug is pulled unless they change artist's (someone well known and I dunno GOOD!) or Mazda is willing to pay whomeva is producing the comic (I believe I seen TopCow mentioned) the loss they incurr over making the book. I'll be buying the first issue just for the hell of it..and then tell my friends "yeah well thats nice but have they made a comicbook with your car in it?.. Yeah thats what I thought!" I dont know anyone with a BMW so I'm safe with saying that.
And yes I do read/collect comicbooks and I'm a artist myself.

Mazda RX-8 lands in comics - no joke
Posted Jul 12th 2006 8:59AM by John Neff
Or rather to be more precise, the Mazda RX-8 will be featured in a series of graphic novels called Revved published by Top Cow Productions. The four-door sports car will be one of four cars depicted that are made with the same metal found in the Holy Grail, Joan of Arc's armor and King Arthur's Excalibur. This metallic cocktail of precious metal imbues the car and its driver with special powers, perhaps even the ability to develop torque at low rpm, something the RX-8's rotary motor seems unable to do without supernatural aid or a supercharger.
The Revved graphic novels are also being licensed into a television series being developed by FOX. Who knows how Mazda got tangled up in making comics, but credit must be given for being creative with the marketing budget. The first Revved book will debut at ComicCon in a couple weeks, though you can check out the first ten pages here .
