Fifth gear used sports car quick comparison with Boxster, Z4 and RX-8

Was a very naive report but at least he got across the value and driving pleasure they give. What was that crap about headlamps needing replacing though?? I think the engine would be more of a priority!

Very true. For the record, sub £2500 RX8s can be bought in the UK but most will be needing a rebuild in the near future. In the program, Jason Plato said "you can buy one for £1500 and have 3500 left, imagine what you could do with that!". My answer would be, spend it on a rebuilt engine!

Dont forget, we never had the huge 8 year/100k mile warranty you guys have in the US, one of the reasons that we have such low prices for older models. Most older cars will still be on their original engine, unlike over there where most of your cars over 5 years old will no doubt be on their second one.

Well, for one, I have a car that I bought new in September 2003, still with the original engine and no problem whatsoever (apart from minor annoyances like some slight rattles). Only about 65K miles though, so I realize I may be the exception to the rule.

Why do you talk when you know absolutely nothing about the situation in europe?
Mazda recommends 12k mi\1 year oil changes, spark plugs every 60k, most cars never had the coils or catalytic converters inspected, let alone the ecu reflashed.
European rx8s tend to be pieces of crap that nobody should even think about buying. German and UK ones especially also have rust problems.
Oh, nobody ever premixes.
Should I go on?

Just FYI... I'm also European and have contact with RX-8 owners in Europe. Saying that all their cars had engine replacement is wrong. I'm not debating that there were a lot of replacements but certainly not every single one.
I'm also aware what Mazda recommends there regarding the service intervals, and it is certainly sad, but those who do care and have some idea about the car won't follow that anyway. Just like the same kind of people don't use 5W20 oil in the USA, even though that's what Mazda recommends.
But I know, this is hardly typical if we are talking about the general public and the average RX-8 owner.

The guys that ended up in forums are a great minority... all the others just sticked to what mazda said.
The number for engine failures here are epic, as much as how stubborn some users are while repeating that their engines are fine lol.

Back on subject...
I viewed the fifth Gear program last week and thought how great it was to see the RX-8, and now Plato recommends it.
Considering Japanese cars always get a second rate review by UK media or even a mention, Plato does know his cars and as a Touring Car Champion for him to pick the 8 out of the Porsche and BMW says something.

What gave you that idea and how is that relavent anyway?
No, the Auto was not available in the UK and there were MANY more 231s sold than 192s so the majority are in fact 6 port engines.

Done - Search results for 'rx8' - How Many Left?
As you can see, there were at leat 20 - 30% MORE 231s registered in the UK.
You may appologise when youve stopped blushing....

I just saw this thread. I wouldn't call 20% MANY more and I trust the data from that site about as much I trust Turblown to built a usable turbo kit. how about some sales figures from Mazda?.

The original question was;
and I responded, with data to back it up, that in fact that there are at least 20% more 231s with 6 port engines in the UK. Now, correct me if im wrong but a majority is over 50% is it not? So I fail to see why people are splitting hairs about the word 'many'.
The site I posted takes its data straight from the DVLA, thats the UK government body responsible for registering cars so why argue about it?
A simple question was asked and it has been answered, simple.
