Winning Blue is Awesome!

Okay, I will give you the riders point of view. First of all, the car looks so much better than I expected. The pictures do not do this car justice!

I was shocked that the odometer read a measly three miles. I was expecting something in the range of 10/12.

The sound system is great, the air conditioning chilled us out to the point of turning it off, and we are in Florida with temperatures in the mid 80s.

I had to turn the Bose sound system down to listen to the sweet sound of the rotary engine. It sounded great. We completely enjoyed the 60 mile ride home. Isn't it funny how it seemed to take us forever to drive from Fort Walton Beach to Pensacola, but the return ride in the RX-8 seemed to fly by.

Everyone was looking at this car. At one stoplight, we were motioned to roll down the window, and the driver of the car next to us had to know what we were driving! He said he could tell it was an RX-something, but that it looked absolutely awesome on the road and he had to know about it.

We have the GT package, and the heated seats are great. Didn't really need them, but had to try them out. If the pictures don't show up, I will keep trying. I also took pictures of the yellow car that was also delivered today at Sandy Sansing Mazda in Pensacola, Florida. You cannot find a better dealership than this.

I was driving the winning blue in the first post. First of all my dealer wanted to know if I wanted to go down the street and fill up my own car, or have a salesman do it, of course I said I would do it. Started it up and could not even hear the engine, stalled it once, backing out of the parking spot, I have been driving a dodge dakota and 95 Cougar way too long. Took just a little time to get used to the clutch and the soft sound of the engine as oppossed to the stereo and other road traffic.
It was very smooth and very responsive to the stearing and the shifting. I am 6 Ft 3 inches, 240 lbs, and found a perfect adjustment for the seat after a little bit of goofing with the buttons, which are very logically laid out. All of them made sense just by reaching down without looking at them as to what they controlled. Stereo was strong and clear and again easy to control without having seen one like it before. First song in new car Elton John "Funeral for a Friend" for my old 95 Cougar, that I gave to my son. Great song for a great stereo.
Tried not to go over 5000 RPM in any gear, suceeded for about an hour. Took it up to 7K a couple of times in first through third. Initial break-in under 5K lasted 56 miles, I guess that was better than nothing.
I agree with the blind spots mentioned in other threads. I was able to minimize most, by optimum adjustment of all mirrors. Some of the blind spots could have been me wanting to see more of everything approaching my new car.
Son is 6'2" and sat in the back seat behind my son in-law 5'10" and said he had good room. Grand daughter liked the ride in the back also. Love the sun roof, again buttons worked like you would hope they would, but seldom find.
Both the Dealer and Salesman said that no breakin was required and, calls for first oil change/service between 5K and 7.5K depending on your driving and driving condition, which tells me it has synthetic oil of some sort in it. I asked about the 3K a lot of cars recomment and he pointed out in the book the 5K to 7.5K serviceing. I'm a 3K man, no matter what the book says. The stretch between Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola has too little road and too many donut shops (if you know what I mean). Will take it to work tomorrow, may not stay at work tomorrow, may be time for a long lunch break in another town, hell another state!
Other threads mentioned this car getting some folks in trouble, and thats because 60 feels and sounds like 30. I'll tell you tomorrow what 90 feels like. On a scale of one to ten, I give it a 9.99, I may be easy but I'm not cheap. Hope you all get yours real soon.

Congratulations! So I guess Quality Imports didn't get ANY cars on the first boat. Too bad for them. Dezi must be rattled. Do your rear windows have any kind of tint to them, or are they clear? I'll be joining you all next. You all and ChuckClifford got blue - what color was the 3rd? My velocity red will be here on the next boat. See you on the road.:D

Back Window tinted or not? It does not appear to be tinted very much, but I do not know to what level. Chuck Clifford and RX8U-UP are on in the same. Sandy Sansing got in two 8s today one blue and one yellow. Quality got shut out, but I'm sure its because their first allocations had port installed options (appearance packages). Quality did say that on their first two the status changed to released. I am thinking about tinting like the one in the brochure, or maybe to match the tinting on the sun roof.

P.S. Other threads had experienced problems with door closing. My experience thus far (20 to 30 closings each) are all four doors are very solid and sound solid, and close tight, air pressure seems to be the culprit, when it doesn't close on the first try.

I will be getting mine tinted almost immediately. I visited a few shops in the area, and the one that really stood out to me as clean, professional, and trusted was Dan's Tint Shop. It is on 4th street next to Jimmy's Pawn Shop. If you head south down Eglin Pkwy, past Hollywood, you will see Jimmy's on your right. That is 4th Street. Turn right there, and after the long building that is Jimmy's there is another long building. Dan's Tint Shop is in there. Their garage is massive and very clean. When I visited they were tinting some very expensive vehicles, and the 2 tinters on duty were very professional and courteous. He quoted me $169 for all the rear windows (standard smoke - not that mirrored crap), and they use SolarGard brand film. This was not the cheapest tinter, but the cheapest was filthy and had no cars being worked on.

Northwest Florida Window Tint on Hollywood also seemed very professional and were working on some nice cars, but their garage was tiny, and had like 3 cars bumper to bumper in there. Yikes! They use 3M film, and quoted me $204.

These were the only 2 places I found that appeared trustworthy, and both of the films (SolarGard and 3M) have a nationwide, lifetime warranty. I did not ask if they would tint beyond the legal limits. As long as the legal rear tint is as dark as the factory rear tint on our Santa Fe, I will keep it legal.

I originally wanted to order blue, but at crunch time (January 8), I still hadn't seen any good photos, and confirmed no two-tone interior. Since then I did not like most of the winning blue photos at all. There were a couple that looked okay, but I was glad to have passed up for velocity red.
Having said that...I saw your car today. OMFG! That winning blue is AWESOME! My jaw literally dropped. Gorgeous. I can only hope that the velocity red looks that much better in person than the photos. Looked great. Here's a pic..he he...:D

Ya know, I have been trying to upload our pictures of this gorgeous car since the 14th when we picked it up, but the resolution is too high. I haven't had the time to work with the pics, but will this weekend. I am glad you got to see the car, and get the pic!

The color is fabulous. In another thread, 1 poster stated that he got goosebumps when he saw the Winning Blue. This morning when I went out to the garage, the sun was shining through a window on part of the driver's side door, and shining off of the blue metallic it made this awesome prism display on our white garage walls. I swear, I have never seen anything like it in my life. I had to go and get my husband to show it to him because it looked amazing.

The blue is so much better "in person" than any picture can possibly capture. I have read, somewhere, that the red has golden colored flakes in its paint. I have only seen 2 8s, my Winning Blue and the Lightning Yellow. In my opinion, the Blue looked better. But I can't wait to see the rest of the colors.

My husband works in that building and would be happy to let you have a good look at the car and take you for a spin. However, since I have yet to drive it, I doubt that he will let anyone take it for a test drive!

Let me know if you still have trouble with the pics. You can email them to me, and I can resize, adjust white balance, etc., whatever you'd like, and email them back to you (or post them for ya). I'm heading out to TX on Sunday, and I'm really hoping that when I return I'll have my own RX-8 to drive, but thanks for the offer. I didn't want to ogle too much, or touch it or anything, because A) I don't want to get too excited yet, and B) I probably wouldn't like people smashing their noses up against my windows trying to peer in. :D Took the quick photo, and left. Glad you all are enjoying it.
