too many miles on a new RX8?
Hi,
I just bought a new RX8 (2006) from the dealer, and it had 150 miles on the odometer.
Is this normal?
I always thought that they had less than 50 miles driven on it.
They transported this car from another dealer about 20 miles away from it and the staff at the dealer that I purchased the car at, had it driven over by one of its workers.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I had 330 miles when I bought it new... but it was dealer trade from some far off land(had to have a certain color)..... the question is ...are you happy with the 8? I have no regrets, love my 8.

My previous cars, VW Jetta, GTI, one had 154 miles due to dealer trade, the other one had 75 mles on it due to detailer trade.
My RX-8 had 11 in the showroom, but then had 15 the day i picked it up cause they had to get gas and test drive it blah blah. I think your fine.

Mine had 97 miles, and was in the showroom.
Built in March, had a May inspection sticker, and I bought it in July. The good test drive from this dealership is probably 10 or 15 miles...I took a Miata and a demo RX-8 around it.
Hopefully the half dozen or so people who test drove mine were little old ladies with a real sympathy for machinery.
And not the guy who totaled another 8 on a test drive.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies.
I just picked up the car today. It is in absolutely perfect condition.
I am so happy with it.
I must have looked at it from every single angle about a million times.
The shifter is buttery smooth - a wonderful differnce from my last car - an RSX.
Interior cabin noise while on the freeway is very minimal.
I love how the shifter vibrates a little @ idle - it really makes me wheel @ "one" w/ the car.
Also, I like how I can switch to km/hour on the speedometer - this was something that I didn't really expect!
I just have one question to you guys (and I already read the FAQ).
The oil pan temperature gauge (to the right of the RPM meter), on my car is slightly higher than the midpoint level on the gauge. Not that I think this is wrong or anything (but the other temperature gauge to the left of the rpm meter is below the "midpoint" on its meter).
Any comments on this would be appreciated.
Best wishes,
Josh

For left hand drive cars, the passenger can't see the speedometer. That eliminates a potentially fun thing, in mph countries, of switching to kph and hoping the passenger doesn't notice the units. :-)

Once the car is warmed up, the temperature gage (which is real) should always be where you describe. That's a real gage.
Now go find a twisty road and enjoy!

Hope you got a good deal? Most "left-over" cars should have a cool deal attached. The thing is HOW the car was driven for those miles. Another thing is...you'll NEVER know.
So, that said I agree with most above that as long as you are happy and can live with uncertainty then you should be fine. Have the oil changed at 500mi and ask the mechanic or if you do it yourself, check to see how dirty the oil is.
Remember it was sold as "new" so it should have all the warranties and etc. Get your recalls done with soon and start have fun.
Congrats.

The first one that my dealer tried to sell me had over 300 miles on it, and he told me he'd knock $25 off the price of the car for the miles.
I couldn't even tell you how long it took me to catch my breath after that laughing spell. Wow, $25 WHOLE dollars off of a $32K car. Wonder how he managed that one.
I took the one parked next to it...with 7 miles on it.

Thanks a lot guys!
I'm really, really happy with the car.
Thanks also for letting me know what about the oil pressure gauge, and how to break in the vehicle.
Now all I have to do is burn some new CDs, and put them in my car!
