Rx8 shift boot/cloth dilemma?
I was wondering what the yellow/brown cloth looking thing is called underneath the shift boot. It is between the inner rubber shift boot and the exterior leather shift boot. Where might I get one of these? I lost/misplaced mine a while ago when I installed my short shifter. The exterior shift boot just looks bad without it. If anyone knows if they sell it and where that will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Think your talking about just the yellowish sound deadening material that used. I would think that any Lowe's or Home Depot would have something that would work.
I'm sure you'd find something that would work. Think when I did my SS I actually tie wrapped mine a little better around the shifter but underneath the boot and below the shift ***. This also helps hold my wiring becuase I have a lighted shift ****.

Mine was somewhat just in there loose and wrapped around the shifter shaft, it wasn't really attached to the boot on the inside in anyway shape or form. So it tended to sort of bunch up at the bottom of the shifter shaft.
So....since I have wires that need to run up to the shift ****, I ran them up the shifter shaft with that foam or fiberglass cloth...or whatever the hell it is, and sort of tie wrapped it in place below the **** so it wouldn't slide down so easy, then put the boot over it as normal. FYI........Not sure if it's sound deadening, or anti-vibration, or anti-heat, or all three????
I must admit though, I also don't have a stock shift boot, mine has a snap on it so it opens wider at the top than most(I think).
Seems like DynaMat or anything like that would be overkill here. I'm trying to google it, but not sure what that stuff is really made of?????
Hey........how about the local junkyard??????

Apparently it's called "Cotton Wadding" and/or "Cotton Batting". Any arts/craft store will have it. Might be white, but who cares.
Assumes you are talking about this stuff. Not my pic, but it will do!
Unless you need it to be green, not sure just cotton wadding wouldn't do...............probably at Wally Mart!
