I can see some small rust spots on my 1 week old RX8 in various places on the driver's side. Looks like very small (1/16") hair-like rust under the clear coat. All in all, about 12 instances.
Have yet to tkae it to the dealer - will tomorrow. Any ideas other than demanding that they repaint the car? Can they be rubbed out?

That's strange. You think that the clear coat would be painted the same day?

If it is rust between the paint and clear coat, it would have to be sanded and repainted. Yes, they should give you another car in that case.

What I see are little bits that are rusting here and there, like some tiny metal shavings got on the car between the coats. In a few other places, the rust is a smeared a bit, like a smudge. All rather small, but visible to the eye.

Dave, I had this problem with a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee with metallic and clearcoat. Chrysler called it environmental damage because it was only on the horizontal surfaces, hood and roof. The car was a only a couple of weeks old and Chrysler offered to repaint it. Since it was leased, I took the repaint rather than further hassle.
