Question Question regarding warranty for engine

Hi everyone, new poster here so my 05 rx8 has been having issues with really terrible gas mileage (9mph average) and had some odd starting issues so about a month or two ago I had a compression test done and it barely passed @ 250rpm with a 7.3 rating with 7.1 being the failure cut off. Had a brand new starter put in, brand new plugs, wires, distributers and the problem didnt go away. So today had an appt for my 8 and a new compression test came back with 7.0,7.0,7.1 @ 250rpm on rotor 1 and 7.3 on rotor 2 so mazda is replacing my engine for free and just ordered it but I was told by the service guy that there is no warranty on this new engine which doesn't sound right to me.

My factory 8 year warranty will be up on 6-20-13 and I thought these new engines would have some basic warranty on them but he is telling me that the new engine is only covered until my 8 year time limit is out but if I were to buy the engine with my own money the new engine would come with a 12 month/12k mile warranty and they don't warrant the parts they pay for which to me sounds really odd since this is a new engine we are talking about here why wouldn't mazda stand behind it at all?

Does anyone know for sure if the new engines have any proactive coverage on them at all I would really appreciate an answer because I am really confused on this one. Thank you.

Did you read the engine warranty thread or the new owners thread? All you need to know is there.

Thanks for your response but yes I did, I looked over the 8 year,100k warranty thread and new owners thread and just reread through the entire warranty section and I did not see anything in regards to the question I asked as far as what happens once a new engine is installed.

Your 8 gets a 8 years or 100k warranty, that is it. The warranty does not reset with a new engine. When you purchase and engine thru the dealer and pay for yourself you get a 1 year/12k warranty IF the dealer installs the engine. If you buy the engine from the dealer and have it installed elsewhere they will typically not warranty it.

if it fails within the 12mo/12k mile period you likely could complain loud enough to MNAO to get a replacement if it happened to fail again in that period. but no, mazda only has to cover the new engine up to the 8yr/100k miles.
