Please be on the look out! Friend's VR 8 stolen

Hi Everyone,

I'm helping my friend out whose 2005 Velocity Red Rx-8 was just stolen today at Tysons Corner Mall in Virginia. She has already filed a police report, but wants to do everything possible to expedite the recovery process. I am asking anyone in the DC/MD/VA area to keep an eye out on the road in case you spot the perpetrator.

It's red, and it's an RX-8, so it's pretty hard to miss and shouldn't take more than a second glance. The theft occurred around 5PM on Sunday in broad daylight by the AMC cinema parking lot. The car is automatic--so features the 16" wheels, it has the full appearance package plus spoiler, and has a JMU decal on the rear window (unless they stripped it). The VA license plate is JZE 4898.

If you spot the car, PLEASE notify the authorities!!--unless it's while you're driving, then perhaps you can pull up next to the car and catch a description of the driver (plus calling the police afterwards).

Thanks, and let's pray it's in one piece.

-VN

thats terrible to hear, although the only thing that's going to help people identify it is the rims. I hope you guys get it back in one piece!

You sure she didn't forget where she parked it and parked it on the other side of the mall? Just asking... it happens.

This is a nice thing youre doing by posting the info. I hope it's not sitting somewhere in the dark mall parking lot collecting dust.

I mean, in order to steal it, you would have to do it with a tow truck, right?

like i asked in the local thread.. how was it stolen?

sure if a thief was resourceful enough he could have overcome the immobilizer.. but that would have taken time and knowledge.. but this happened in a mall parking lot...?

the mall parking lots around here have security cameras. you should check to see if the mall she was at has those too. sorry to hear about this but best of luck on getting it back and getting the thief put in jail!

Hey Guys,

Just a little update. It turns out she dropped her keys around the car and didn't realize it until after she was in the mall. The mall is notorious for being riddled with teens on the weekend. My guess is that some impetuous delinquent saw the keys and took the car out for a joyride, perhaps to impress his friends. I was beginning to wonder too how someone could be so daring to steal a car during the daytime in the midst of a filled parking lot. So this couldn't have been the work of a professional, which means this wasn't pre-meditated. I'm sure they realized their infantile behavior and ditched the car before they would get caught.

She made it a little too easy for them. Nonetheless, she contacted mall security and the police so if there is any footage of the crime, I'm sure it's being reviewed.

Coincidentally, I saw a red rx-8 driving in the opposite direction as I was coming home from work today. I rarely see them in red. Should've U-turned to get a glimpse of the license plate but that was in the direction of traffic =/

I live in Maryland so hopefully it wasn't the car or I'd be kicking myself.

Not for nothing, and not to mitigate someone stealing a car, but how does someone drop keys like ours and not notice? The 05 has the retractable FOB no?

I'll keep my eyes open. I'm in Maryland too, but you never know. I just had my wheels/tires stolen so I feel her pain. Here's hoping the car is recovered safely and that they find the thief.

I was about to ask how did they steal it in the first place. ohh keys dropped. I see how it goes.

you should spread this news NOT only on rx8club.com spread it all across the car forums in VA/DC area. it will help the recovery, FAST.

give out the VIN number too. it helps.

Smart keys should have remote deactivation, kinda like cancelling your credit card when it's been stolen.

Great News! My friend just told me that the police found her car in some dude's driveway, but couldn't disclose anymore information at the time. This guy is retarded! Must've played one too many hours of GTA4 with cheats on thinking he could get away w/ the real thing. I'll let you guys know more as the story unveils.
