Officially a Rx8 Newb :)

Just got it today. August 29, 2011 Monday.

Rx8 2005
Pearl White (can somebody give me the color code of this or w.e I'll need so when I get a paint job it'll match.)
Manually 6 speed

I'm finally not a virgin anymore!

Alrighty, some of you might of seen my other post questioning this 2005 rx8. Everybody was telling me to walk away from it but I went with my guts and bought it from the private seller.

It not as new as most of you guys get yours but it's something to work on and revive this beauty. Welcome this new rx8 to the forum. She was hidden and I found her!

Still kinda new to stick my first car was an 98 eclipse and got use to it but then sold it to my bro and now waited almost a year and just getting back into it. But I know the basics just have to find her sweet spots

The things about this car is that it seems like the previous owner didn't maintain it properly as in cosmetic. (looks like a horrible driver lol) but its nice looking still just bumper needs replaced with the side reflectors and could somebody tell me what the foamy piece is (it was behind the plastic grill in the front?) Putting 2 new rear tires. I need to replace the front window shield because there is a crack on the driver side. For anybody that remembers, I said lights came on but he had a spare on the back rear (yes i no its bad to have it like that I told him) Well good news. Just for now put a dif tire on it and those lights went away! (traction control, break light (comes on and off but I need new pads) ABS and tire pressure) I'm going to take care of this car for sure. It's my first clean car well for me at-least!

It takes about 2 seconds for it to start when I crank it. (is that normal?) idles fine.

Ill upload pictures in this post later but she's embarrassed because she has some blemishes, but later this year or next I'll be restoring her.

Thanks in advance and Ill be updating this post later tonight, and I'm def, checking this forum for tips and tricks and to figure stuff out and I have already so thanks everybody!

What gears like

Gears 1, at 10
Gears 2, at 20

Don't worry about trying to find a set speed to shift at. The rotary loves to rev, so make sure to treat her appropriately. You can shift every gear at 7-8K RPM, or you can shift at 4-5K, depending on how much room is in front of you, where you're driving at, or if you feel like hearing the rotors whine (and we ALL want to hear that).

Worry about making her run perfect before you worry about cosmetics. It's much more important to have the engine happy early on in your ownership so as to not create problems further down the road.

By the way, how many miles does it have?

Good luck and enjoy your '8

It has 60,000 and sum.. I think it was a good deal but alot of people were telling me to walk away. Yea I got a brake rotor today and some break pads. The rear rotor was so bad that it was making noises while in movement. (its going to sit for a bit until I get some more money but as long as I have it I'm fine. I live in the back roads so I'm still going to drive it up the street and pract and get the shifting down at her sweet spot ) and just to make sure , I can't just get in and go, right? I have to wait about 10 mins then go. (correct?)

And when I shut down I wait about 5 mins then rev to 5k rpms and then shut it off all at once. Should I rev then let off then shut down or are these methods fine either way.

Thanks !!!! This is one of my biggest accomplishments yet.

Actually you can start it up and go (I wait till it at least gets under 1.5K idle), but keep it under 4K RPM until it's full warmed up. After that you can redline it whenever you want. Also, you can shut it down without revving the engine as long as it's at its optimal temperature. People say not to shut it down without letting it warm up because it can cause flooding. But if you have to, holding the engine at a moderately high rev for 7-10 seconds should burn off much of the excess gas that was spit into the engine since it wasn't fully heated, thus preventing flooding.

Take care of the car and it will take care of you. The '8 isn't much for forgiveness, so keep up on your maintenance!
