newbie question...sorry

i've got a dumb question, but before you go bashing newbies or myself, i did do a search and couldnt find anything right away.

so my question is how long is the normal break-in of the motor before you can really start redlining or giving it some juice?

sorry again for all you senior members who hate newbies...but hey we got to start somewhere. and hopefull i will have my new 8 within a week or 2.

thanks

The manual says 600 miles, others say longer, some say shorter. I'd go with 600 miles because its what the manual says.

Also, try to vary your RPMs, but keep it below 7000 RPMs until after the break in. That's the advice I've gathered from our forum experts.

In the manual, I didn't really see anything specific regarding what RPM to keep the engine under during the breakin period. The manual only states to vary the engine speed and that's it.. therefore, it can be assumed that you can run the engine at higher RPMs compared to piston engines.

i first redlined it at 2250km(1400miles) and i was really carefull for the first 1000km(600miles) not to exceed 6-7000rpm
