Hi everybody

Recently sold my Protege MP3 to my little brother and bought myself an RX8. I just picked it up on Friday.

It's an '04 Touring, 6spd, mint condition. Only 28k miles.

I have a couple of questions, and I know they are pretty broad but I couldn't find a really comprehensive list anywhere.

First — I heard it's a good idea to replace the ignition starter/coils with the 09-10 model ones. What's your take on this?

Second*— Everyone's favorite question: Brand/weight for oil??

Third — Mazda says to rev to 3-4k rpms for 10 sec before shutting it off so you can burn off the rest of the fuel (right?). Should you do this every time you shut the car down, or just when it's cold?

Thanks everyone, sorry if this information could be easily located elsewhere

Emmy

Welcome!
Most common ignition upgrade on here is the BHR ignition.
As far as oil ive been using 5w20 with no problems... but some prefer thicker oil depending on climate.
Only rev it when shutting off cold, no need when warm.

Any particular brand for the oil?

I was so set in my ways with my MP3—I had a sweet sfumato valve that made it so easy! I have noooo idea how to change the oil on the RX8 yet. My dad and brother race dragsters but they aren't totally familiar with rotaries, so I guess we'll all figure it out together

^Anytime. If you ever decide to use synthetic oil id go with royal purple... theres some reports on here about Mazda denying engine replacements b/c of synthetics so be careful on that.
