Need Help! My dealer is giving me a hard time with my engine replacement. :(

So my car has been at the dealer for a week now. They keep calling me for bills of oil changes. I told him I put the all in the glove compartment with all the boxes of FRAM oil filters that I bought. They said they can`t find the enough oil bills but filters are ok. I told them when the oil was on special at walmart I would buy about 4-5 in the same time and use them as I please. I would pickup only the filter when I change my oil and use the oil that I had previously bought on special.

Now I bought the car at 80000km and they gave me a fresh oil change then. I brought it back for my first oil change with them at 85000km as well as coolant flush, tranny oil and differential oil. From then on I decided to do them myself. The car now has 127000km and I brought it to them with clearly a fresh oil change. I changed my oil at about 3500km interval (2100miles). (Ya I know im an oil change freak) Of course I lost a few bills of the motor oil I bought. Its easy to lose when you shop at walmart and buy other stuff at the same time. But they already have a few jugs of oil on the bills I provided on top of the oil changes I did with them. How much more proof can I get?! There is a dozen boxes and bills of oil filters in there. Plus isnt the oil change intervals 5000 miles recommended by mazda?!

What more can I do? Im not leaving there without a new engine. The car is barely driveable. Its like they think I would change the filter only but not the oil. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Anyone got bills of 5w20 oil they can send me? I would pay for priority mail delivery. Im getting tired of this, its such a pissoff for someone who maintains a car to perfection to have these lame excuses come up. Not to mention I changed coils plugs and wires twice during the 45000km I owned the car.

I really could use some help here. what to do, what to say?

Yeah, they are being quite unreasonable. Is there a specific gap of more than 8,000km that you don't have a specific receipt for? I think it would require missing 2 in a row?

Even then, it's very odd they wouldn't accept what you have. Have you called MNAO to discuss with them? You have a very reasonable explanation for the frequency of receipts and they shouldn't have any grounds to shoot you down.

Im not sure your location, so Im not entirely sure how it works where you are located. But just for the record, I only provided 3 oil change receipts to my dealer when I had my engine replaced. I had more, but couldnt find them at the time. They gave me no hassle whatsoever. Im not sure what to say beyond demanding they replace your engine, since you have proven you did your part in taking care of the vehicle.

Perhaps try another dealer? Call around and see if you can get feedback from another dealership and leverage that info against your current dealership.

There would be no gap, I would buy an oil filter every time I change the oil. Its just that I bought multiple oil jugs at the same time. But how can I prove the km when I do it myself?

Do you think MNAO can do something about it? Tomorrow is my last chance to talk to them. I feel like they are crime scene investigators instead of a place to fix cars.

It's simple, they want to milk u as much as possible, and HOPEFULLY you will pay full MSRP for the engine AND probably wants 20 hours of labor when it takes no more than 6.

Just out of curiosity...

If you have a whole bunch of oil purchase receipts and oil filter upc's and receipts, why in the world didn't you just buy a small book, and write down when you bought the oil, and changed the oil?

That simple act would be preventing this very issue right now.

All you had to do was buy a book, take your receipts, scribble down dates and mileage amounts, and now they wouldn't be able to say a single thing.

If I were the dealer that you dropped your car off at, and you said "all the receipts are in the glove compartment, loose. You go figure it out, because I don't give a crap", I'd probably be giving you a hard time, too.

All you had to be was slightly nicer, and they would have probably taken care of you.

Some people are very organized, others, not so much. How are we suppose to know that they are going to be so **** about the whole thing. Mazda built a bad product where engines are being replaced left and right because they only last between 20k to 60k miles? And im suppose to cover the cost? If you build a bad product, you must assume warranty work because its their own fault in the first place. Now they try to pass the cost to the consumer. As if im gonna drop 10000$ for a new engine when my car is worth no more than 6000.

Also just out of curiosity...

God forbid this happens to me, will I be able to bring in my reference sheet to when I did my own maintenance on my car (attached) instead of receipts? As well as bringing in the receipts I have from previous owner (might just make an excel sheet for those as well).

I'm in the latter category. I bought a bunch of filters and oil, but haven't documented when I do the oil changes. My car runs fine, so I don't think it's a concern, but if it was, I'd probably be screwed if the dealer was a pain in the *** about it.

Because, this forum has been reporting on dealer experiences that forum members have had with getting engine replacements and other dealer services since 2004. There is no excuse to not have your records together and organized.

Hell, Mazda even allows you to create a mymazda login, and enter all your oil change information there, and you didn't even use that tool.

Right now, your problem isn't with Mazda, its with your dealer.
You need to make nice with them, or go to another one, after you organize your records.

Mazda built a bad product where engines are being replaced left and right because they only last between 20k to 60k miles? And I'm suppose to cover the cost?
Actually, Mazda didn't build a bad product, they built a very good product.
It just has a very short lifespan when you compare its engine against a Toyota Corolla engine, which most people seem to want to do.

And yes. If you don't do your part to provide good records of when you bought and used oil and filters and maintained your vehicle, you are going to have to dig deep into your pockets in order to get your engine replaced. Your one job as an owner of the car to keep its warranty valid is to properly document oil and filter changes. If you can't handle that, you could bring your car to a Mazda dealer, and they could take care of all of that for you.

If you build a bad product, you must assume warranty work because its their own fault in the first place. Now they try to pass the cost to the consumer. As if im gonna drop 10000$ for a new engine when my car is worth no more than 6000.
Luckily, car companies know that a huge portion of their products aren't going to need warranty work, and the ones that do need warranty work, usually the owners are going to keep records, or be able to come up with them.

You're an oddball exception.
You kept records by stuffing receipts into your glovebox.
You're making more work for the dealer by forcing them to try and make sense out of all that trash in your glovebox.

And you wonder why they aren't jumping through hoops to replace your motor.
All you had to do was apoligise to them for the mess of receipts, take all the receipts, and put them in a proper chronological order, write the dates and mileage into a small book, and make sure you didn't have any holes in your date ranges that you could drift an RX-8 through.

I bet if you simply apoligised to them for the mess of receipts TODAY, and did the above, they would take care of you. Maybe a box of donuts and coffee/oj, or something for them to snack on.

Maybe he did buy a notebook, and simply needs to find it. Or restore it.

You can fix that right now, before it ever becomes an issue.
Just go into the mymazda.com website, create a login for your VIN, and start entering information. Then staple your receipts into a small book, with the same dates and mileages you put into the website, and you're completely golden in case something should need coverage.

Scan or Xerox register receipts, since those tend to fade over time.

If I were the dealer that you dropped your car off at, and you said "all the receipts are in the glove compartment, loose. You go figure it out, because I don't give a crap", I'd probably be giving you a hard time, too.
If the car was already at the dealer when he got the request for receipts, there wasn't much he could do other than say they were in the glove box. Maybe they could have invited him to come back into the service bay to pick through the collection.

When my car was in the service bay, I've told dealers that stuff was in the glove box or trunk, and never had a problem.

the car was already at the dealer when I found out the news that I will need a new engine. If I wouldve known, of course I wouldve sorted out the bills in chronological order. I didn't know at the time, I only went for check engine lights.

Of course I feel bad I just dumped a whole bunch of bills and UPCs in my glove box.

I called them today to offer to help them sort out stuff. The rep then told me that its ok because they found many jugs of oil on some receipts.

The motor is ordered and warranty work was approved. Now I will get news on monday if the motor is backordered. It could take a long time, so they gave me a mazda 2 meanwhile.

Thanks for all the inputs. I got my lesson, next time I will definetly keep clear records of maintenance.

cheers

Just stay on them and don't budge. They should eventually cover it. I just had my engine replaced and gave me no hassle but I am the.engine builder at a performance shop down the street from them. So I'm sure that played a part....plus I had oil change receipts for about 30k miles

Mazda (MNAO) wants to know that you have maintained your car, quite reasonable I would have thought, why should they warrant engine if the owner does not care to do 'normal maintenance'?

You guys in the US are very fortunate you get an 8 year warranty, Mazda did not have to do this, no where else in the world can you buy a Mazda as cheap as the US and get a engine warranty like this.

Each year from about now on less and less RX-8's will qualify by time/date line.

And to OP, I agree with BC..

You have to be nice and polite to your Mazda Dealer.

MNAO don't really want to see all your paper work, it is the Dealer who has to 'check' the box on the form and tell MNAO at the time of engine authorization that you qualified.

Perhaps you have a disinterested Dealer who really does not want to do the warranty work?, it can happen you know.

I would do everything BC said in above post.

Cool on you to call them back and offer to clean it up for them.
Like I said, that's pretty much all you would need to do, and things will be golden.

I'm glad you're getting your new motor, and I hope it renews your love for the RX-8 after its replaced, and your rowing through the gears.

Ya when I get the car back I will apologize for the inconvinience and I will bring the service rep a nice bottle of wine. He took really good care of me and he was the one who sorted out all the bills.
