Instrument panel noise-TSB

Has anyone done the TSB for the driver side instrument panel noise? (yes i searched). Anyone had this problem even?

I've experienced an intermittent, but rather LOUD, noise or rattle that seems to be comming from somewhere behind the instrument cluster, and only at high rpms (like 6k-9K).

Started noticing it after I installed the k&n 2 (guessing more intake vibrations now). Yes I've checked all bolts and connections on the intake system.

Want to take it to the dealer for the tsb, but not 100% sure that is the problem I have.

I think I have the same problem. I should've mentioned it to the Mazda dealer when I took the car in for the recall, but I forgot!

If you haven't done the recall yet, mention the noise and TSB to them when you take it in.

take it to the dealer, explain the problem, and let the technician do his job and troubleshoot the problem rather then trying to do it for him

the gauge cluster itself can rattle. There is a DIY somewhere on the site for removing it, and putting in some bushings on the mount points to tighten it and prevent it from being able to move slightly.

I get this issue when it's cold. Warmer temps and it's fine. Good thing i'm in FL

I will be tomorrow. I'm taking my car in for several things at once, the primary item is a fogged-up passenger-side taillight. Secondary is the "milky substance" on oil dipstick, squeaky front brakes, and instrument panel rattle TSBs. There's a brand-new TSB issued today for the dipstick, so I'm printing it out because I doubt the techs have even seen it yet.

I have the rattle too. Everything's stock on my car. Most noticable when cold.

I had one like that. It was a loose bolt underneath the steering column. It's funny how such a little thing can drive you nuts.

I've been having the same noise the last couple of weeks with the colder temperature. It sounded like it was inside the door, but if it is true that the rattle comes from a bolt in the steering column, then I guess the sound is bouncing off the door panel, which make a lot of sense.

I had the same problem. Mine was bad on rough pavement even when warm in S. GA. I did the DIY and it cleared right up. I put the O rings in and used some double sided sticky tape where plastic meets plastic and put it back together. No rattles any more so far.

^ nyc: did your rattle happen at high rpm with your k&n II ? Or, just over rough pavement?

Have you had your recall work done yet? also if you drive hard off the line from light to light you might want to have them check your Engine mounts. There was a small issue with them about 6 months back.

I had the recall completed about two months ago. Also, I don't tend to drag from light to light.

You think this noise could be a bad motor mount?

I had a rattle between the drivers door and the corner of the dashboard. When I stuck my hand between the door and dash it would go away. I think the clearance was too tight, the dealer adjusted the door and took it apart and filled it up with some kind of foam supposidly and it's mostly gone now.
