How to turn of Traction Control COMPLETELY

i just bought a 2004 RX-8 and i want the traction control completly off and it wont and i was wondering if anyone knows what time talking about???

Hold down once and you get partial (you'll be able to spin the tires a bit more) but if you loose substantial traction I think the system will still kick-in. If you hold down the button for 8 seconds it turns-off the system. You can only turn it back on by turning off the car and restarting. Don't drive off a cliff.. peace..

well, the even if that was the case, i would say that what push and holding it down do is make sure that it will never be back on untill you restart the car? who knows lol

The only way it is going to come back on is if you push the button accidentally - unless you are in the habit of wildly flailing your arms and legs around while you are driving I can't see that happening .....

haha - I thought we were done with this "off completely" business...

Just press the "DSC Off" button and your DSC and TC systems are disabled - just like it says in the owner and service manuals.

Anyone who can't figure that the button turns it off, probably shouldn't be turning it off in the first place.

P.S.

The next person that hits my car because "My traction control didn't kick in BRO..." get shot... end of story.

These threads are pointless, please search or **** take time to go in your car and look for the damn button.
There are times to turn of traction control, like at the track, autoX, or drifting, and having fun.

To the inexperienced drivers:
please do not go out on a wet day, think your the ****, turn DSC off. Next thing you know your sideways, your heart beat increases X10, you have no clue what to do, and you may hit something.

Just use your common sense and be safe!

Is there any advantage to turning it off, other than if you are on a track? I cant think of any. Unless it lets you burn out easier

I personally dont like it on, ever. if my car gets sideways I dont want the computer pushing the brakes for me. I for sure dont like it on in the rain. I feel safer being in 100% control of the car. I really dont push mine that hard, its automatic. Every once in a while on a real slick corner itll do a slight slide though

Starts are much better with the TCS off. With it on the engine will pull throttle when it senses too much wheelspin while stationary.

So if your car ever starts turning sideways, you don't want it to straighten you out by braking the specific wheel that will help you regain control?

Point taken.


Even high end lambos and ferraris have DSC.

Full instructions:

Press DSC button once to partially defeat Dynamic Stability Control. Hold the same button down for 7 or 8 seconds to defeat Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control completely.

If you hit the button once to defeat DCS then you can hit again to turn back on while car is still running. If you held the button down for 7 or 8 seconds to defeat everything you must restart engine to have everything back on.

When pulling away from a stop in the ice and snow on a uphill, I defeat the DSC briefly to get some slippage and momentum by feathering the throttle. If I start slipping with it on it immediately cuts power and/or brakes the wheels and I usually can't take off (especially on a hill). Some people will say this doesn't make sense but trust me, this works on the ultra slippy conditions here and is usually a must on uphills when you get stopped at a light. Once I get going I turn it back on.

Sounds good. Is it ok to leave it off say for fun, but turn it on for bad weather or driving conditions?

definitely have it on for bad conditions/greasy roads if not all the time, I just turn if off briefly sometimes just to take off from a stop on ice (some slippage is necessary to get momentum on ice/snow) but usually drive with it on all the time

when I first got my 8, I played with it in the different modes to see how it would react in different conditions but now leave it on

This is so completely wrong. Pressing the DSC button turns off DCS and TCS. Holding down the button does nothing but send the computer into an error condition. This has been confirmed in another thread with the use of the service and owners manuals.
