Two things I'll never get, clear corners and waves from other like minded drivers.

Both useless.

Flame away...

Hell, I've been an RX-8 enthusiast since I first saw it as the RX-01 when I still owned my RX-7; I just had to wait a few years to finally get mine, so not ALL enthusiasts bought early.

I get no waves, just stupid fat kids in Evo's waving their hand infront of their face does that count for anything??
So far I only get a few nods from guys driving SUV's and Halfton Trucks.. nice to know someone driving a Ford F-150 respects my ride enough to give me a nod. That and I've only seen 2 Rx-8's so far in my town/area one was parked the other was driving in the opposing direction and I didnt see it fast enough to wave.

If I ever get a finger I'm just gonna sigh personaly, I respect other peoples rides and constantly nod and wave to people who drive old muscle cars and great sports cars that are taken care of. 'eh its just me though.

Maybe it is me, or maybe it's the dumbasses in the other cars that prolly think they are driving a supercharged 4 cyl with a really smooth powerband. And as for southern hospitality, From now own, if I see an 8 and the owner doesnt wave, he's getting a bowl of grits to the hood, free of charge.

hugs and kisses,
zoned

Yup, I'm in castle country. Are you the blue lawyer? I haven't seen you yet!!!! The only rotar head I know is the Service Manager for Valley Mazda...

Do you ever get as far as Paso?

Yes I live in Monterey Co. You have to pass a couple of signs on the way to my digs - The first Says Monterey County and the second says "No services 100 miles". If you don't mind getting your car a little dusty, you are more than welcome to come on by - I will even feed you ribs up at Parkfield -

I'm heading up to the Rotar head meeting on the 24th at Treasure Island - you going???

oh well...some guys are just rude...but i agree with stavesacre21. they just dont know the relationship of rotary engines is unique...the rotary family. maybe they dont even realise that it's the same car. back when i had my sa22, we used to do a flick of the headlights during the day to greet other 7 drivers. pitty the 8 doesnt have pop-ups. well my friend, don't let it bother you too much. you can just smoke them off the line coz they probably dont know you can rev it up to 9000rpm

Try a different approach - let them wave to you, first , and then answer with a tiny head nod and the Royal Wave.....

well you wouldn't have seen me, I don't have an 8 yet, just a saturn... but I'm saving up for the 8 for sure . But I do work in paso. I see quite a few 8's between SLO and paso though, the service manager has the silver which hasn't yet crashed... I've also seen another silver in paso and there are at least 2 black cherry shinkas down here. what color is yours? I always see a yellow one with a spoiler on it over on the 12th street parking lot next to the pizza joint in paso.

oh wait nevermind, I just looked at your profile and saw blue. I don't think I've seen you around yet, and I do pretty much notice all 8's that pass me so I wouls have seen you too!

I know i totally just dug this up for the archives, but I didn't feel like starting another similar thread, so i just thought i'd continue this one.

I FINALLY run into another 8 owner in Ohio today, and low and behold...it would just so happen to be joe cool. Mid-30's fella with shades on. I give him a wave/thumbs up...and he stares at me like he's trying to decode brail or something. Almost a blank look, like WTF is wrong with this guy. He then procedes to fall back and tail me for a short ways until I turn off down my road.

Still waitin to find one that'll actaully respond...

I have decided that as long as the Bettys wave back, I don't care.

I've waved to a couple people in this area who didn't wave back. That included two different women in red 8's who didn't acknowledge me. Maybe they thought I was a perv. (I am, but how would they know?) I think there can be a number of reasons people don't wave back...

- They didn't see you wave.
- They're high on a Renesis buzz.
- People wave at them all the time, but with fewer fingers.
- They're afraid you might want to race.
- They're jealous that someone else is having as much fun as they are.

I'm in Charlotte and I wave at every 8 I see. Everyone pretty much has tinted windows though so I can't tell if they are waving back but at least I feel like I tried!

I've been getting wave-backs from people here in Chapel Hill. That's most likely cause most of the guys driving 8's are college students. My girlfriend thinks I'm the biggest loser for waving, and she tells me every time. I don't care though. It's worth it.

Try this: "Darlin', it's a Rotary thing. You wouldn't understand."

Yeah, I just looked at his VBgarage and saw it's a white. I met some guy at a party who had a silver like mine and was just curious if it was him.......

I live in CT, and have run into two 8's so far.

One yellow one in Bristol, so I waved at the guy. He looked at me, and looked away like I wasnt good enough to be waving at him.

Then another white 8 in Bristol pulling out of the Webster bank parking lot. The lady acted like such a bitch when I smiled and gave her a beep.

Her window was down so I know she heard me. No beep returned though.

Bottom line; some people need to get their heads out of there asses.

I've always waved at people who own the same car as me. Hell I get more waves from guys on rice rockts, american muscle cars, miatas, 3's, 6's, Mazdaspeed, and tons of other cars. Those people dont have a problem showing when they like a car. Apparently some 8 owners think their driving Ferraris.

I remember there was a lot of wavings and signalings between the 8s when it first came out. My friends thought I was nuts to do such crazy thing in la la land. Everyone was happy then, but now I guess it is just another car. Once a while I still get friendly gestures from the rx7 folks.

With all of those nasty northerners living down south - who's living in the north? Maybe they were just upset they just got raped at the pump (j/k - not wanting to start a gas debate).

Ya' know, when my wife got the VW bug years ago - she was like - what's with all the people waving at me. She didn't buy it for the cultural ramifications, etc., she bought it because she thought it was cute. As time went on, she got into the waving thing, but as the car got popular, less people waved and the novelty of the car disappeared. I think the 8 is hitting that realm. The people buying the car are not enthusiasts who frequent forums like this and understand the history and community of the rotary engine.

Strange how this lack of social graces is just lumped on those of us from the north... In the work I do I meet people from all over the U.S. and I promise it doesn't have as much to do with being from the north as some people might think! A**holes come from everywhere and drive anything (the same can be said about the good people)! Me...I am from the Bronx, NY and if someone in another 8 waves at me if I can react in time I will wave back or give a friendly nod (I will admit I don't usually initiate the waves)! I am also a little bit of an enthusiast so I'm not one of those people who didn't know what I was getting when I purchased this 8. I had an RX-7 a few years back! I do have to say that the friendly waves and nods come from people in other cars more than 8s these days!
