Hasn't happened to me yet and I'm inclined to say it won't happen to me anytime soon (unless I go FI ). I don't think we have enough torque to cause the wheels to break loose uncontrollably.

as far as i think, rx8s are pretty tail happy cars. when you go in a 90 degree corner in first gear, if you give it a little more gas, your car will spin out. (the DSC kicks in) i don't know if this is true for all rear wheel drive.
and i talked to some other guy who drives a MR2 Mark2. after he drove my car, he said that this car is more tail happy than his mr2.

M stands for Mid-Engined
R stands for REAR WHEEL DRIVE
2 for 2 seater. (This is the edit)
MR2 is a very comparable car, tis lighter but it's got the same balance that our 8's do.

I can't tell you how many "I took off the DSC and crashed my car" threads i've seen

As long as you have DSC on the car controls itself for the most part. I see the only reason to disable DSC is if you are confident enough to be able to control the car on a track or backroad without computer help. I know that on my car the only way to get the tail out now with 245/40 tires is 1st gear and a 90 degree turn.

I had 3 different Z28 Camaros and they all were very unrefined and could get out from under you quickly. I know what you mean and it could be spooky at times. The 8 is a whole different machine, you will not have any issues like you did with the Camaro. And lastly thank you for spelling Camaro correctly.

I did a 180 once by accident. Gave it a little too much gas into a badly banked onramp with bald tires. I ended up in the dirt (no damage) but it reminded me that it is possible...

And to answer the original poster's question, the RX-8 can fishtail but I don't see it as a reason to avoid the car. It's just a matter of learning how to handle the vehicle.

No DSC here. ONly spun out once doing an S turn too damn fast. Otherwise I've taken turns fairly fast and just counter steer when tail loses some grip. It's a blast. I'd hate to have dsc on all the time. Takes the fun out of owning a rwd car.

No DSC and liking it
No DSC here. I haven't spun out yet but it's easy to correct once the rear end comes loose. Its actually one of the things that makes the car so fun to drive. Also scares the crap out of my wife which can be good or bad!

All cars, especially RWD, can spin out. But the RX8 is very forgiving and less prone to snap oversteer than most other RWD cars I've driven. And if the back-end does slide, you usually have a better chance at recovering with RWD than with FWD (depending on the situation and your skill).
One way to learn how your car behaves is to experiment with sliding around in a big empty parking lot where you have lots of room and there are no people around (ie don't be an idiot). Try various combinations of changing direction while giving it different amounts of throttle. If you have DSC, disable it for at least half of your trials.
Just watch out for curbs, light poles, etc and most importantly be careful not to hurt yourself or anyone else. And don't push your luck... keep your speed safe and reasonable and don't call attention to yourself (you're likely to get in trouble if a cop catches you). Also, doing it on a slick surface (rain/sand/snow) will cause a lot less tire wear.

lol how else have u seen camaro spelled?
Yea I had a 98 6 cyl. I was cruising on the highway doing around 60 ish in the left lane. The road starts to turn a bit, nothing to crazy, and all of a sudden I start drifting into the middle lane Im like wtf?
I try to catch it and bam 360 into the guard rail.
Sucked sooo bad!
I figured since the weight dist in the rx8 was near 50 50 that spinnign out wouldnt be such a problem. I just dont want to have to worry about things like that.
Thankz for your input boyz n girlz
