Does the car lock on you...

Does the car lock on you when it is running?

My senario:

In the garage, I started my car and closed the door. A minute later, I return and try to open the door but it won't budge. Seemed like it was locked. I had to run into my house and get the other set. I had to open the door by putting the key into the keyhole on the driver door. I never thought i'd need that keyhole...

Read the manual. It's suppose to do that if you punch the correct buttons.

My buttons got pushed when I keep my keys in my pockect so mine doesn't do it any more.

Did you buy your car new?
If the previous owner had a security or auto-start system installed, it might be causing your
doors to lock.
I don't know of ANY of the OEM RX-8's doing this....

Odd, I was under the impression that the doors wouldn't lock if the key is in the ignition. And no I haven't read the entire manual.
Did you try it a second time, to see if it happens again? Or maybe try the passenger door instead of the drivers?

yea, i never thought the car would respond to the keyfob with the key in the ignition.
i haven't been able to repeat it, and i kinda don't want to because i don't have my other set right now. lol.
it was either a once in a life time thing or i just suck at opening doors.

You seem like your pretty mechanically inclined, I doubt it was you. Probably just a fluke. And if it does ever happen again you can bet it'll be when you don't have your extra set available.

Doors will lock with the keys in the ignition. I have stopped at lights in the shady areas of town and locked my doors many times while sitting at the stoplight. Although, they are not supposed to lock on their own when the keys are in the ignition.

Prolly a fluke or you hit the button without realizing it. Keep us updated if it happens again.

^Gotcha! I don;t think I made my point very clear in that post anyway. No biggie.

BTW, Wasn't it BunnyGirl who said her doors wouldn't lock while the second remote was in the car with the new '06 remotes? Seems to me I recall her saying she was trying to lock the car and it wouldn't. Then she realized the second remote was in the car. She took it out and the doors finally locked. Did I read that somewhere or have I had a few too many already tonight?

Yeah. I couldn't get the car to lock from the outside with the transmitter key while the other transmitter key was still in the car. I haven't tried it since the day I first got the car, but it was pretty strange and it took me awhile to figure out why I couldn't get the car to lock. It worked fine after I removed the second transmitter.

if the door was ajar and you hit the lock button before starting and then closed the door when you got out- that might cause them to delay lock. ill try it later- with the window down so i can reacjh thru for the keys

I have a similar but different problem. I open my doors with the fob and hear the locks open. I don't open the doors right away but instead use the fob to open the truck. By the time I store things and go back to the door it has locked it self. This has happened several times.
