Do you get attention in your RX-8?
I've seen some pretty hilarious stories on other forums so I thought I'd ask here. Even though this car is 12 years old, it still seems to turn a lot of heads! I always have guys taking pics, kids going and people asking what the heck this car is. No doubt this car pulls a lot of attention, and I can't be alone here.
Lets here some stories guys!

This is a weird one.
I get attention out and about when I go place, usually from middle age adults mainly. They tend to be very curious about the 8 and go back to a time when they owned a early model rx7 or some sort of Miata and how much they loved those cars.
Locally we have a car page with 29k people in our state, on there the rx8 gets no love at all. There are very common posts out there (junk, rust, pos, bad engines, bad transmissions) the list goes on and on.
The ones that get the attention here in Wisconsin are as follows:
Mitsubishi evolution
Subaru Impreza
Mazda Miata
Hyundai Genesis
Scion FRS/ Subaru BRZ
Everything else is kinda pushed off to the side

Lmao I always wonder if people do that because they want to make fun of a car or they actually admire it. like that thread "What NOT to do to your rx8" I feel like when we forum members take pictures of these cars the drivers are thinking their cars are hot s***

Hahaha great stuff guys! Steve, what is the school bus test? Having kids stare at the car from inside the bus?
Wherever I park, I see people walking around the car and taking pics. Not many RX-8s here in Colombo so it's a pretty rare car. I once had a guy in Subaru Legacy follow me around. I think he was trying to race me, but after 10 minutes of slow driving, he gave up and turned around lol. Whenever I take it out for a spin, people just stop and stare. This is one sexy car.
A buddy of mine has a black R3. A lot of people who sees his tail lights think it's a GT-R haha.

In my current neck of the woods, I've seen five or so RX-8s in total, but only one other 8 regularly. As such, my car appears about as often, maybe even less, than a Corvette.
First, I'll set the stage here: east Tennessee, the land of lifted 15/25/3500 trucks with Confederate battle flags flying from the bed and rednecks who think said trucks are racecars. Other than that, mostly just Civics that should be in the "what not to do to your car" thread.
The attention I get ranges from:
...people asking if it's a 4 or 6 cylinder...
..."how fast I've driven it", which is 140, but this is followed by me saying straight line speed doesn't mean a lot here with all the curvy roads.
...said lifted 15/25/3500 trucks wanting to "race". I've walked them all.
...said Civics, which also sound like a pack of pissed off bumble bees because of their horrible exhaust choices, wanting to "race". Again, no real challenge since they spent more money on looks and sound than speed.
...and finally, genuine interest and admiration of the car from a wide range of people, some of which owned a rotary powered car in the past.
It'll be interesting to see the different attention levels when I move to Michigan.

The Michigan "WANKEL"
I get lots of looks and praise toward mine. A few years ago, while stuck in construction traffic on I-69 heading home from work, a seriously hot blond woman in the passenger seat of a nice, first gen Mazda6, put a sign up in her window asking, "Can I have sex with your car?" I laughed, and when I didn't respond further, she gave me a questioning look. I nodded affirmatively.

Definitely
I just got my 8 last fall and since I've had it I've noticed a lot of heads turn. I live right in front of a school and nearly every time I drive by when school is getting out I will have a few of the kids yell "nice car!" or "do a burnout!" Other than that I will have people look at me at stoplights or watch me drive by. No one has actually came up and asked me about it yet, but I expect that to be just a matter of time. My closest friend is completely jealous of my 8 also, haha. Theres nothing fancy about it. Its just a stock 8 with a turboxs exhaust (yes I know, yuck. I didn't put it on. It had it when I bought it. Hope to swap it soon.) But I like it none the less. Its been.....interesting
