Damn POTHOLES

I know this topic has been posted on this site for *god knows how many times*

but ok here is what happened.

Yesterday morning I was driving normally, on my lane, all of the sudden I saw this freaking potHole, I can dodge it so my *front wheels* didnt touch it but sadly my Rear Right Wheel fell RIGHT into it , BAM! and Hmm it seems to be fine the TMPS didnt go off so my tires are fine. but now when I wanna go fast I can feel something is not right, virbations coming from somewhere.

I will have all 4 wheels Rotate and check tomorrow morning(For damages), the stock wheels are pretty strong I think cuz they're forged wheels (1 piece).

But is it really good to repair it ?(in case it has been bended by the Fuxking pot holes) I've search and found alot of threads about *Wheel repair*, but its kinda like mixed reviews, some said dont repair Alloy Wheels and some said its ok if its minor. But no one has a definite answer .....

Last question, if the wheel is *NO GOOD*, then I have another problem, since I have a Shinka and the wheels on my are not the same as the other 8 has, some painted Wheels or something? I search couple of the site sponsors(and others) but I only found *Dark Chrome OEM wheels* and it does not look like the one that I have .....(Color wise) IS it the same one? or I need a diff part number?(Special order)

Thx

Okay first of all, a new Shinka wheel is $459 from Rosenthal Mazda. When you order a wheel from them (or probably any Mazda source), they ask you for your VIN—that's how they know to send you exactly the right wheel.

I think wheel repair is a great idea. I just used Wheel Collision Center in Bath, PA…
http://www.wheelcollision.com/
…they have a very good reputation. I think they charged me $289 to refinish a Shinka wheel. (It only had a TINY bit of curb rash, though—nothing major. And no, I can't comment on the quality of work 'cause I had them ship it to where I store my summer wheel/tires in NJ—so I won't see it 'til April.)

Anyway, having it repaired saved me about $150 over the cost of a new wheel. (I drove it out to Bath, PA. It's less than 100 miles—about an hour and 50 minutes from Harlem, where I park my car.)

Now… isn't it pothole ?

NY look at Wheel Collision Center in Allentown PA. They have a website as well. I think that they are the best in the business with patented processes for alloys. I got a refinished wheel for my SS from them and it was guaranteed OEM specs. I think that they may do the Shinka dark finishes as well. They can evaluate if your wheel is repairable.

I hit a pothole that was filled with rain on a dark road...actually tore a four in rip on the outer edge of the rim. Yet didn't lose air, managed to nurse it home. I drove up there, they looked at my rim...they said "We're good but we're not THAT good, explained that the rim could not be repaired and be safe." They will treat you right. Contact them to find out what they can do for you. Best of luck.

Beat me to it NY, I guess we are both happy with the service there.

You know it might just be teh wheel is throw off balance, the balanced weights maybe one of them came loose during the pothole impact and came off, which might lead to vibrations when ur driving, unbalanced wheel. Might wanna try balancing all 4 wheels first before going out and spending like $500 on a wheel. Plus if there no scuffing on the surface (face) of the wheel, it should be ok.

Ooops yes is POTHOLES not polehole ... what am I thinking Hmmmmmm ...

I hope is nothing major, I know I can file a report and have City to pay at least most of the cost, but its still a pain in the *** process (took them like 1/2 year to refund my 2 tires) and theres a chance that I might not be able to get **** from them.

Anyway Oh yes I am going to do what VR saids tomorrow .... but if it requires repair I will send it in for repair .... and have the city pay for it, after that I'll use this set of wheels for Winter only. Get myself another set for Summer ONLY. Yesssss

but man .... damn NYC .... I pay so much freaking Tax every freaking year and this is what Im getting (potholes, all these overweight NYPDs who shot ppl 51 times ... etc)

BTW, Euro-tire in Fairfield, NJ is a GREAT place for wheel alignment/balancing stuff. It's where the local Porsche clubs take their cars. Well worth the short trip from the GWB…

Good luck—hope you get a chance to go there. (Call first to see when they can take you.) There are tons of tire shops around, and it seems like many don't know what the hell they're doing. When I leave Euro-Tire (I go once a year to check alignment), I know the work was done right. (And they're one of the few shops where you don't have to worry about them scratching up your wheels.) They will definitely tell you precisely what—if anything—is wrong with your wheel and/or balance/alignment.

Just my 2¢.

I would use the word *Millions* of potholes in New York City. Last time 2 of my 6 months old Toyo Proxes got killed by them, and killed 2 of my rear member brace TWICE in 4 months.

Damn gotta love those Potholes !

If it bent the rim, you would probably really feel it. I would try what VR said for sure. 1 missing wheel weight can definitely throw it off; especially on a precision car such as ours.

Damn it, I FREAKING NEW MY FEELING IS RIGHT.

Both Front and Rear Right wheels were bent. The front one looks better cuz u cant really tell unless u put it on the machine to spin it. But the Rear one .... u can tell right away without even put it on the machine. I was there and looking at it with cold sweat ......

They told me they can get me recondition wheels for 260 a piece. Brand new 505 (each).

Damn I mean at that price, Im thinking about just get some aftermarket (maybe Mazdaspeed) wheels ...... What ya guys think ?

definitely go w/ aftermarket wheels, find a set that your TPMS sensors will fit and you're good to go.

Im trying to find out which Wheel support TPMS, I know all wheels on Tirerack that supports RX8 can take TPMS, but I dont like any of those wheels on Tirerack's site ..... they dont look bad but ... just dont like those.

I want stuff like RacingHart CP-F Tuner
or Advan Super Verison 2

I want to keep it at 18" maybe a bit wider than stock so I can stick some wider tires on it. Whats the stock wheel size again ? 18"x8 ? or 7.5 I dont remember. I know Advan's size 18x8, 5x100, will they fit ? I have no idea about RacingHart's size (nowhere show on the site)

and and Forged is better than Multi-Piece right ? I read this somewhere that saids Forged are stronger than Multi-Piece.

I dont think they both support TPMS, however (correct me if Im wrong)

I think it's less hassle to fix (or replace) two wheels than get 4 new ones (don't have to bother selling wheels, switching the two other tires, etc). I'd ship 'em (or just drive them) to Wheel Collision Center, 100 miles away. Also remember you can order new Shinka wheels from Rosenthal Mazda for $460 each (free shipping), a little less than the $505 they quoted you.

(Also, Wheel Collision Center may have reconditioned Shinka wheels at a good price. You have to give them your old ones as part of the deal.)

Just went through the same thing out here and bent the inside of two of my wheels hitting same pothole while driving through a road re-construction area. Mine you , mine are after market Sterns Beast but it is still 300/ea to replace. So I was complainining to my buddy who was a state transportation engineer, he said file a claim with the Department of Transportation. Looks like I could get paid back for my two wheels since according to him, the state carries liability insurance for jobs like these and they often pay.
Good luck on your wheel search. BTW, I am running 18's also, really seriously looking at going back to 16 or 17 for extra sidewall comfort and reliability.
