Being a rotary the RX-8 is unique, plus I would say the RX-8 is the best rotary to date! But it is hard to say that for example an original stock 1978 RX-7 is a collectable car. Maybe if it's in near perfect condition where the original owner parked and garaged the car for the last 26 years. But it would still not be a car worth 100k or 50k. "Collectable" includes limited production, history, special packages, special ownership, etc... and stop driving it! :D

I was going to post a new thread on this subject...but since this one is here:
<stands up on bar-stool to address the gathering crowd>
*ahem*
STOP THE MADNESS! We must all band together to stop any further sales of the 2004 RX-8! <crowd murmurs>
Why would 'we' want to do that you may ask...well, the fewer cars sold in a year means that over time the car will become rarer and rarer ultimately leaving only one 2004 RX-8 in existence! And the value of that lone, remaining 2004? My mind boggles at the thought...
Anyway....look at how much a 1953 Corvette is worth! Years from now we (owners of the few remaining 2004 RX-8s) should be smiling because we know that the last 2004 model was sold at auction for $568,235.68! It is our future! It is our DESTINY! It is our...

Ouchie!
Darn...So much for that idea...

Unless you're looking at rare old cars or cars in price ranges that you can't afford...DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT A CAR AS AN INVESTMENT...unless, of course, you like losing money on investments.

Hmmmm...Guess SOME people out there don't know a joke (however lame) if it hit them. Oh well...
Also, what defines a 'rare' car 20 or 30 years from now? That was the point I was 'joking' at...if only 10K 2004 RX-8s are produced then in 20-30 years it may be a rare old car (look at my '63 - been rare/old for 20 years at least).
RX-7? Saw one of those on a flat-bed today heading for the scrap heap...was surprised too because it looked in reasonable condition. How'd I know it was going to the scraper? It was piled on top of 2 other cars tied down with chains.
Ah well...off to annoy some other thread.

Thanks...I try and liven up the place a bit every now and then. I guess I need to go a bit further out of the box next time.
So much mischief to accomplish...so little time... *sigh*

Given the amount of electronics in today's cars - the day of the collectible car may be passing. You can keep a 1969 Camaro on the road forever - but when Mercedes stops backing my SLK320 - it's days will be numbered.
Love the RX-8 - will keep it indefinitely - just I have the Miata - numbered 230 - and the 10th AE Rx-7 - of which only 1500 were sold in the US - but it will be a long time before the RX-8 is a collector' item - if ever.
My 2 cents
John
