I still cant believe it happened - driving in the morning to work roll up slowly to a light and then proceed to hit the car in front of me, because my designer leather sole shoes slip off the brake pedal and I miss the pedal again while scrambling to re-find!
I take a look - that break pedal is tiny and has sleek metal on most of it - but it sure is pretty

yea the hit was pretty loud - my grill cracked on one corner and bumper plastic is a little deformed on the left side- not very noticeble but still will have to replace it $$$
At least the person I hit didn't make me pay like $200 for the scratches I put on her bumper
That pedal is just not well designed - there is plenty of space there for a wider pedal.
not if you heel toe. the pedals are perfect to me. heel toe downshifting feels so natural. i can do it in my work boots, running shoes, dress shoes, or racing shoes with little/no effort. The dead pedal is also very nice and comfy, ive noticed though, the deadpedal is very grippy on the sole of your shoe...the pedals are grippy enough, but im wondering why they didnt make teh pedals the same as the dead pedal (as far as that grippyness on it goes).
If it's grippier it'll be a bit harder for people that rotate their ankle to heel and toe.
Honestly if you had your heel on the carpet I really have a hard time figuring out how your feet can possibly slip off. Nonetheless, the brake pedal is about the same size as that of a lot of manual tranmission'd car's brake pedal; it's not really that small. The pedal is sized this way so that your left feet doesn't accidentally hit the brake while clutching and you also don't accidentally hit brake while gassing. Yes it's got a brushed aluminum look, but the rubber tabs on the brake make it so that it really isn't that different in terms of grip from that of an all rubber normal pedal.
God..now this is a first for me.....wear different shoes.
Dress shoes are sketchy at the best of times on any pedal......, especially leather soled ones
Were they wet too..
Actually I agree with dannobre; dress shoes tend to be harder to drive in than say a tennis shoe. If I need to wear dress shoes, I'll keep a pair of tennis shoes in my car just for the drive.
I'm not crazy enough to spend my time every day changing shoes a few times.
thanks
You're right. Sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck and police, filing a report, talking with the insurance co., going to the body shop, visiting the ER... those are all much better ways to spend your time.

Herein lies the culprit. Get a shoe that is designed for driving. I always wear driving shoes with grippy soles and bring leave my leather shoe in my office. Upon arrival, I just change them out. The pedals in the 8 is fantastic. You are not doing any justice by wearing the wrong shoe to drive this car. You are missing the optimal driving pleasure. Might as well wear wool mittens to shift gears....

I have also found the pedals to be slippery when the bottom of my shoes is wet. I just make sure I dry them off on my floor mat before try to heal and toe

Did you miss the bit about the high traction tape solution?
yep, dress shoes FTL when driving a car with metal pedals... I've slipped now and then on the pedals in my 8 but i had same issue with my Tibby. /shrug i've not hit anyone though.
Remember as a kid, the bikes had those "rabbit trap" pedals? They should do something similar to that for cars... except thankfully with a car pedal, if you slip off it, the pedal wont spin all the way around and bust you in the shin!
