I bought the best motoring vid where the RX8 gets beaten around the track by the S2000, and WRX, and ITR the other day and I just downloaded the revenge video where the Mazdaspeed RX8 creams the S2K, ITR, GTA, and R32.

I have heard that the Mazdaspeed has maybe 10 more hp than the standard one, and some suspension tweaks?
Is this all the difference there is?
It seems like a very big difference for so little modification.
Does it have totally revised suspension, or less weight or something? I was quite astounded by the difference in performance it would seem to have.

From what I remember, the driver in the first video was pretty bad, not taking it to redline, taking turns wide etc. Drivers probably make a bigger difference than anything else.

The suspension upgrades and TIRES on the MS make all the difference.

I saw both the videos too. The Mazdaspeed won in the 'revenge' video. Since I saw the mazdaspeed video first, I was shocked how the RX-8 and the SL 55 AMG got dead last!

So all the mazdaspeed has is, mazdaspeed coilovers, and say strut brace, exhaust, intake + flywheel? And I assume all these parts are mazdaspeed, that you can get through dealers?
That doesn't seem like a lot for the huge difference, that you see between the videos, but I guess good suspension really really shines on a racetrack.

I have seen bits and pieces around the forum with people having the mazdaspeed parts, seems the flywheel, is a favoured mod, but I hear the exhaust dosn't give much power, just more noise?? Anyone like to share experiences with the mods? Not just, a "you will love it" but some more indepth driving analysis?

The thing is, maybe that driver in thefirst video dosn't seem to be driving that well, but I actually own the english version DVD, and he is a professional GT500 series race driver from Japan.... I can't imagine him not driving the car very very well.

does anyone know how I can order volume 65? The real audio preview clip looks good as it's the battle of 4 RX8s...one titanium gray 8, one white (autoexe kit???), one yellow (doesn't look like ms kit bc of different front bumper..buddy club???), and one white 8 w/o body kit all racing against each other. Toward the end of the RX8 preview, it even shows the white autexe 8 getting a little loose through a quick S turn. good stuff.

just because its a professional driver doesn't mean he's trying as hard as he can... recently there was a best motoring video where a corvette got absolutely spanked - the vette driver never even came close to even breaking the back end loose comming out of the turns :o

best motoring videos are great for entertainment.... thats about it

Hmmm, if you read the whole thread I end up listing the suspension mods that the RX8 has, so I did do my homework.
It also has those under body braces, does anyone have those?

If you go to www.mazda.co.jp\mazdaspeed theres a complete list of all mazdaspeed parts for all cars avalible, and also at www.mazda.co.jp if you go through and find the rx8, then go on to the mazdaspeed version (a different page from the mazdaspeed flash page) then its quite cool they got a little intro that lists all the mods the mazdaspeed version has. Its a pretty big list!! They also have write ups from teh engineers too its a good page, pity I just gotta babelfish it though....You always loose so much in those translations.

This show you how much different the shock. struts, stabilizer and tyre could make... I doubt very much the fly wheel and the exhaust gain significant wheel power to gain 2 seconds in Tsukuba.

Look at both the first Tsukuba battle and the revenge battle and compare the stability of both cars...

Cortc has the whole gear and he had a review on the shock and bars... I believe every word he said and I am going to prove it as well by installing them... (still waiting the parts to come)

until i actually see a race where all the cars are actually pushed to the limits i will keep my opinion.

The race where the RX8 gets bitch slapped the driver never even drove hard enough to get the tires squealing. This happens in a lot of the BM races where one driver pushes the car, gets it sideways, and puts a wheel off in the dirt while another driver looks like he's out for a sunday drive.

Compare the Tsukuba battle and the Revenge battle... the RX-8 is in a slightly different line... the first one the RX-8 did not clip the apex as good as the S2K. I am not saying it is running wide but there is prob a 3/10th of a second there! It is significant enough not to be passed by the ITR!

The MS is supposed to have the exact acceleration of the stock 8 because the couple added hp are counted by a heavier weight. If you watch the two videos the RX8 is being pulled away from on the straits in the first battle, but not in the second. That means it was either that particular RX8 or driver at fault. So either there was something wrong with that car or the driver did poor is my conclusion

The above statement have a slight error:

It may not have the EXACT acceleration. You have not accounted the lighter flywheel!! :D (picky I know). BTW the body kit is not that heavy! (maybe 7-10kg)

That was the report in the magazine that tested it, I forgot which one did do a short review of the MS version but they said it had the same acceleration. True it might have a little more accel, but still I can't see how it could have that much more accel.

my bad, I got my videos crossed up, does anyone know which one I am talking about however, it's a clip where the 8 has a HUGE wing and it was incredible =) it was insanely quick compared to the 8 in the first "battle" (where the 8 lost...blah blah blah)
