3M Cut-To-Fit sheets of paint protection film?
I use a roof rack to transport my bikes and snowboards. Although my Yakima rack doesn't leave any scratches, I'd like the peace of mind that it would be impossible to scratch the paint by sticking on sheet of 3M's paint protection film.
I was planning on putting them on the car where the rack's feet touch the roof and where the clamps brace the door frame. Good idea?
Here is what I'm taking about - I think it's the same stuff that they build the clear bras with:

If you're used this stuff before do you have any install tips? Heat gun needed to bend it? Should be just a spritz with water and squejee job right? I'd appreciate any help.

Here's a picture of my Utility Sports Car.
Anyway, has anyone used the 3M sheets?

Use tire inner tube
I saw my brother mount some metal racks on his van and he used a piece of rubber inner tube in between to prevent rusting. It's a different application but I think the same concept. Cut a swatch of inner tube and put between the car and the bike rack feet.

its not the easiest thing to work with, but its not impossible.
you need to do it on a warm day, 80+ degrees. and use a hair dryer or heat gun. plus of course, soapy water and a squeegee. the roof of the car is relatively flat so it should be really straight forward. the hood of the car was really easy, just lay it on. the roof should be about the same.
i clearbra'd the front of my car and you cant tell.
