Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a 2007 Mazda RX8 GT with 12,000kms on it. I absolutely love the car but there is one issue that I am having with it that I worry may be a potential problem in the future.

The problem is..

Once the car has been started and driven for about 5 minutes, Anytime I
stop at a stop light or stop sign and I'm in nutral.. When I shift into first I hear a clunking noise. The clutch is still pushed down and the brake is still on. It's only when it gets shifted into 1st.

The dealership has the car right now but said that they can't hear any noise. Does anyone have any ideas what this may be?

I have this problem too ever since i bought mine had the whole tranny rebuilt(for another reason) and it's still there i don't thik it's a big deal i have learned to be sure you are not movin at all and leave the clutch pedal left in a little longer before you shift and this should help

Mine does the same thing at 12k miles. If you depress the clutch for slightly longer before putting it into first this should help. If i depress the clutch and throw it in first right away it clunks more.

Is it more like a CLUNCK, or a THUMP when shifting back to first at a stop...
Been like that since I got the car new 07, never even thought of it as a problem. I can even feel the car tug with the noise, very faint though.

Our addiction has been around a while... if you had searched for clunk, first and shift you would find pages of threads confirming it to be the ABS self test everytime you start the car and go over a few kph in 1st or reverse.

I just want to thank all you guys for your responses. The dealership has also confirmed that this is normal with RX8s and that it is nothing to worry about.
