Post 1/4 Mile.

I've been taking my car to the track lately and running the 1/4 mile. I have perfect launches, brand new tires, perfect shifting, but I've got nothing lower than a 16.1

Car has 95k on it and has never been rebuilt, what do you guys think? I know it's more than capable of low-mid 14's.

How old r your plugs, coils, wires, ignition... etc.

Have you ran a compression test at all?

Maybe you lost a lil compression. How hot was the day? There are a lot of variables that can cause this. Do you have a sound system? Anything heavy in the trunk? How much do you weigh?lol

I'd take the car in for a compression test before you roll 100k regardless of quarter mile times. It was tagged with a 14.6 I think stock which means it can run high 14s. Given the torque curve of the car, it's going to give up tens right off the line. Are you on stock coils? Age of plugs/wires? There are tons of areas where the car could be giving up power.

I can't get my timeslips because they are in my car and it's not at home right now. Everything in pretty old and no compression test done in a long time. Best time was 16.11 @ 89mph. Was beautiful weather out, somewhere around 20 Celsius.

Bob: Perfect launches as in limited to no wheel spin & not dumping the clutch obviously, very quick shifting barely lifting @ around 8900 every time.

your trap speed says otherwise..there should be plenty room for improvement..without the information on your timeslip not really too much to be helpful insight can be made

I'll grab the timeslip tonight, I have my car at mazda. I'm probably messing up somewhere and don't even realise it. Thanks a ton for the help you guys provided already.

+1, weather and altitude can play a big role.

Check out our launch... With these cars you need to launch them around 5k+, though not often as the obvious wear it will cause.

Due to the lack of torque it is the same issue first seen with the S200. When they first appeared no magazine could break into the 14's. When questioned Honda replied on how they launch the vehicles (dump at 5k) and the times dropped significantly.

This is why on a rolling start (5mph) our cars suck (check out any review where this was done). With these engines you need to be in the powerband coming out of the whole or you will never come close to the cars potential.

For a point of reference in this thread:

My first (and so far only) run at a drag strip I obtained a time of 15.547 @ 90.72. Details are below. My car was pretty much stock; just running with a K&N drop-in filter and Moroso spark plug wires (woo!). Wheels are lightweight SSR Comp-H (17.5 lbs.) wrapped with 245/40-18 RE-01R's. I had maybe around 60k miles on the odometer.

10-20-2009
R/T: 0.889
60': 2.331
330: 6.629
1/8: 10.097 @ 70.12
1000: 13.048
1/4: 15.547 @ 90.72

Newbie excuses:
Did a mini-burnout when I probably shouldn't have.
Was caught by surprise when the lights went down so soon after lining up because I wasn't thinking straight. This led to a rushed (read sloppy) start.
Tires skipped like mad launching @ around 4000 RPM.
I think I fumbled a bit; hesitated on shifting into 4th being so close to the end.
I feel I'd have room for improvement if I ever cared to try again.

^^ I was pretty nervous my first and only time at the drag strip too. It made it tough getting the perfect launch.

With the 8's peaky power, with a clutch dump or high RPM clutch slip, the wheelspin is ok since it's a compromise to staying in the powerband.

I would say shifting just before the gas cut off of 9500 rpm is ideal, yes the peak power stops at around 8700, but by shifting around 9500, again you'll be staying at the idea powerband.

Jesus you guys should try pushing the peddle on the right further down ....
(I kid I kid)

I've only ever done one run ... this is the time slip from my first and only run.
I didn't even bother to warm up the tires with a burn out.
I hope to do more this year.

I was on the right hand side

I ran my stock R3 2 weeks ago and my best was 15.024, I had to launch around 4, any higher and my wheels just broke free. But I was pretty consistent with my times...I think you should definitely be able to run better times than a 16.11 =) I need to play around with things a little more, I want to break into the 14's next time around, still trying to feel things out though, car only has 2500 miles on it.
