04 Nav system.. How do I get an upgraded cd?
I didn't get my car from a mazda dealer and there arn't any close by but I want to know how(and how much) to get a newer cd for my nav system. It doesn't have a main road I use! and two of th interersection are not there (within a few miles of my house) it's barabl but annoying to know there coul be shorter route or I could run into a dead end. cause If I tried to gt to my house it would tell me to go to a road that doesn't exist. >.< gah.

I've been trying to find a copy for a while... but no one is smart enough to do it. I can copy it but i need the disc first.
Mazda wanted $549 for the disc, straight from navteq they wanted $199 + $30 shipping. (30 shipping on a cd... yea i know)
I'm gonna buy it once my $300 paypal dollars dont ammount to 297cdn dollars... like wtf? haha i remember when 300us = 460 cdn! booooo

I have a portable gps (palm pilot), but i like the in car nav better. (Larger screen, better sound, push of a button and its hidden)... plus i hate the fact that its sitting there as a useless option i cant show off to my friends.
I'll likely buy it soon then make some copies or something.

I disagree. There's no reason for them to suck more than the handhelds. The real issue is that you're locked in by your vendor and there is no competition. When you're locked in, they rape you on the updates too.

Just a minor correction, Mazda lists the DVD map disc at $293, not $549. I'm sure I could get it for under $200 shipped from Ray Crowe if I wanted an update.
I have been unsuccessful at locating a current North America Navteq map disc for download at any torrent site or newsgroups. I can get a Europe disc all day long and the 2006 RX8 discs as well but NOT the 2004-2005 ones. Sigh.

There are a couple of upgrades. One is to the NAV software itself and readily available (check electronics forum). The other is to the maps. I think the maps upgrade came out a year or two ago and has maps that are old. You may want to see if the latest map cd has the streets you want before you buy it.

for 04/05 model RX8's the most recent software map data is 2005.
and i think the 06+ had new hardware installed, hence different format discs?
Also you should note that navteq has a 30 day return policy if the software doesnt work... (you'd be out the money for shipping).. but you could make yourself a copy. and complain that it doesn't load up in your system... then say your fed up and want your money back.

I don't think anyone has had any success copying the Navteq cd. The software upgrade, yes, but not the updated maps. We are all waiting for another version of the updated maps.

Yeah, they should be like $20 at most. If anyone has a copy, let me know. NAVTEC is garbage. The system is easy to upgrade maps. My mother has a new Acura TL Type-S, it has what they call "accu-link" or something, basically it notifies you of any recalls, bullitiens, new maps, etc. I just wish out systems could get the XM traffic maps, I also heard that weather/radar maps are coming soon to the service.

So yea, good point.. when are they updating the data from 2005 to 2007? The mini cooper has navteq data 2007.2 right now for 199... why is the 2005.1 for mazda costing the same price?
A lot can change in 2 years with map data.
In theory you could probably compile your own version of map data using different discs.

Find some product that has a "double your money back if not satisfied" policy. Buy $300 worth of that, then not like it.
That gives you the money to just buy the new disk, and not do anything improper.

There's not a disc made I havn't been able to copy yet. Send me an original 2005 map disc and I will copy it and sent you back both the original and 10 working copies.
