Sounds exactly like the bypass plate I bought. I found a 1993 Oil Flow diagram online.

Just to make sure I am getting this right, this is a little contrary to what you said. Here the oil flows from the front cover, through the oil cooler, then to the filter into the rear iron housing. I suppose my little dilemma is how to feed the oil into the block with the block off plate?

I sort of assumed the little threaded bolt was for a sensor, rather than an oil return. Is that incorrect?

Why don't you just do the tiny modification to the RX8 pedestal then run a remote filter off of that instead.

Remember, I am currently driving my rx8 around, so that would require buying another pedestal and reselling it (not a huge fan of the buying just to sell). I am sure others had success with the rx8 pedestal mod, but it just isn't for me.

Okay so just put it on when you take the motor out... how hard is that...

Or here's one on ebay for 20 bucks. Takes like three minutes to widen the one hole and you slap it on...

Maybe one day when the stars all align. Honestly I still have a bit to buy and figure out yet. I am about 13K/20K in on parts at the moment. I will be trying to pick up a DD hopefully before the winter to keep my car out of the harsh Ohio winters. With that in mind I would like to start assembling the motor after winter. As many builds go, my initial time frame was a complete pipe dream but I think overbuilding is a good idea. I'd be an idiot to buy all these parts and never go through with it, so its merely a matter of time and money.

We could work that out and meet sometime Fickert, I always enjoy going through the build with other people. I have some Rx7 friends around who have been helping me with questions a quite a bit as well. I would really like to get most of my local rotary friends together and start kind of meet. It turned out to be pretty exciting last time I did that, but I have been dropping the ball of social events lately.

As an update to the actual build, I haven't made any real progress. I just got my first day off in 20 days, so I am doing maintenance to the Rx8 while I can. I am actually in the middle of buying a 2011 WRX wagon atm, so that's when a good chunk of my money is going. This is why I haven't bought anything for the Rx8 recently (although I forgot to post about the injectors I bought). My poor Rx8 is a veteran of 6 winters and surprisingly not that rusty, so I jumping on the opportunity to save it from the winter cancer.

I did get around to hand polishing the UIM. Took. Forever. Too much work and the results could have been better. Live and learn!

Nono sorry I was a bit misleading, I just coated the underside. I only polished the top because it was taking soooo long. It ended up smooth and shiny, but I think the little damage to the surface made a few imperfections show. Additionally the smaller areas and crevices were hard to sand down. If I would have to do it again, I would get the piece sandblasted first. I may attempt polishing the water pump housing, but there are a few spots on there too that may be hard to get as well.

Ahhh gotcha... keep up the good work, don't seem like you'll be putting anything together for awhile so polish on
I didn't bother with the bottom either just added thermo tape to the underneath.
But I did shave off everything not needed for a cleaner look.

Thanks for the pics of the UIM. I'm thinking of getting rid of the unwanted bits from mine too.

I want to relocate my oil filter too. The builder got the FD filter in but it's a b@stard to change. I can't get the Mazdatrix block you're looking at, or any other block for that matter, over here in the UK so I'm planning on getting one of the standard oil filter relocation kits, blocking one input/exit and milling out a channel between the 2.

Quick update. Proud owner of a 2011 Subaru WRX now. It will be taking over daily duties for the Rx8. I figure if I am sinking money into a swap, I want to avoid the rust cancer. Clearly I cannot stop spending money on racecars. WRX is stock for now, but I have an accessport on the way to band-aid the crappy stock tune.

I know some members aren't a huge fan of this car, so please refrain from commenting if you disapprove. I don't personally mind the hate, but I want to keep clutter out of the build thread. Likewise, just PM me or check out my FB if you want to know anymore info on it.

What are the plates on the RX8 trunk? Are they supports for a spoiler/wing where you fit the blade for track work?

BTW IMO the WRX is a good car. Over here in the UK their reputation is a hooligan's car so they lose value quickly and get bought by hooligans who can now afford them . . . . I've not had one and would consider one - there are few 5-seaters that can beat it since Lancia Delta Integrales became so expensive (I had one once, wish I'd kept it).

Those plates are trunk mounted base plates for my wing. The base plate is shaped like an 'L' where the riser bolts into the tall leg of the 'L' with four bolts and the base plate bolts into the trunk on the short leg of the 'L'. Kind of a crappy way to design a base plate, but I wasn't up for making one of my own.

Thanks for the support! I definitely understand the reputation, it's labeled as a "bro" car here in the US. As with all car groups, you have examples of good, stout characters and poor, shady characters. The same day posting that picture in the Subaru group, I got the "should LS swap", and "unreliable cars" comment. There were some good comments, but some people just make me lose faith in humanity. I still don't get why so many people spout hate s avidly. I just try to mind my own business and build up b*d*ss blue cars.

I still like the rotary motor much better. Anyway I will get back on track; got a big chuck of money going into the Rx8 build soon, so in a couple months you might see some cool shiny stuff... so keep an eye out!

God bless the rotary community, and happy holidays.

Sadly, none as of right now. I have been trying to find out anything about turbo, tuning, and ecu differences for the S2 model so that when I drop the car off to be built, the builder/tuner has some idea of what to do. No luck so far. It looks like I may have to pioneer it and throw money at it when the time comes. It has been really cold lately and that has made me very lazy and I also got into SWTOR lately (my first time playing an mmo). I really don't have a good excuse honestly.

The Wrx has been taking some money as I got some preventative mods and a new clutch. I also moved over to my own insurance and had to pay for an unexpected tie rod repair. Basically I couldn't contribute to the race-car fund the last two months. Hopefully a small hiccup. I plan to dump my entire tax refund into my build fund. Since I am close to finished with what I can buy on my own, I may just aim to get my build fund to 10k+ and arrange to drop the car off.

After that's all arranged I will finish up the motor and assemble it. At this point, I will likely keep the Renesis in until next winter so I can enjoy it one last summer and hopefully get on a track before I go turbo. Rest assured, I am so far into this build that I am not going back.

13B-REW Front Cover w/ Rx8 AC

Bought a spare rx8 ac condenser for the build since mine looks like **** anyway. I will make a quick adapter plate for the 13brew front cover and tensioner bracket and post up the measurements here. This way the problem will be solved for anyone who takes this route in the future. I know people have done it, so im not sure why the information isn't available.

The condenser comes latest by the 10th. I will have to compare the mounting points the the FD condenser and then order an aluminum plate. My initial plate dimensions are planned at 5-1/2" tall, 5 to 6" long, and 1/4" thick. The rx8 ac belt does indeed fit on the Gilmer belt kit for the FD that I previously posted about.

I will update you in two weeks time on this.
