Hey y'all consider this...
$2000 at 10 years 3.0% interest is worth $2,698.70 (4 standard warr + 6 extension). In a sense that's the true cost if you never use the warrenty. I'd only get it if your going to exceed the miles. Or if you trust mazda and think any future repairs will be less than $2K + keep your money. Car's built in Japan so I think we're all good w/o the extension.

First of all, the extended warranty company has to approve any repair before they will pay for it; this is not a factor with a factory extended warranty.
Second, many dealers refuse to deal with third party extended warranty companies at all - that means you get to pay for the repair, fill out the paperwork and send it in and hope you get reimbursed, someday.
Third, and perhaps most importantly, you know there will never be a question of viability with the factory extended warranty unless the car company goes out of business. As an example, Warranty Gold, one of the biggest third party extended warranty companies, is currently paying no claims as all of their administrator is located off-shore and has filed Chapter 11.
You can read more about it here: http://www.autowarrantyandmore.com/t...?talk_thread=6...
That wouldn't be an issue with the Mazda extended warranty plan...

I picked up my 2004 RX-8 last May with 91k miles on it. Wasnt aware of the need to get a compression test or anything else about the car at all. Bought the third party extended warranty with it, 3yr/36,000miles. Now its a little over a year later, got a compression test done, front rotor is pretty toast. Side seal most likely.
The warranty company is saying that I "need to take it to a licensed repair shop and diagnosed to find the cause of failure" and the only thing i hear is "you're going to pay to have some dipshit tear your car apart, not know what he's looking for, and **** you out of a ton of money. Have fun." Anyone have any tips?
I am rather mechanically inclined. But am not a "licensed mechanic"

It's very simple. If you want the warranty company to pay for the repairs then the repairs MUST be done by a qualified repair center. That doesn't mean that the "qualified" repair center knows ****-all about the Renesis engine, it only mean you have to comply with the warranty company's guidelines.
Good luck.
Good luck.
