MN Winter Tires or Second Car?

Hey guys - just bought my first RX-8. It's an 05 and has 19's on it on the moment. I'm also learning to drive a clutch.

While I REALLY want to drive my 8 year round, I understand that may not be the best idea.

I still have my 03 Dodge Stratus that is being replaced by the 8. Do you guys think I should buy some Blizzak's, sell the Stratus and call it a day, or keep the Stratus and drive it during the winter? (p.s. i REALLY REALLY want to drive the 8 all year!)

keep it. If you live in an area with a lot of snow... the salt will just really mess up the 8.

how about the winter days where it's not really bad? i.e. little or no snow on the ground.

keep the 8 in the garage? Get snow tires? Drive as it?

Don't let them scare you.

I drive my 05 RX8 year round.

I have Yokohama S.Drive XLs in the summer and switch to Bridgestone Blizzaks LM-25's in the winter. I have gotten around better then most cars and trucks in the winter with these tires.

So yes, the 8 can be driven year round.

The blizzak tires are fantastic.. Some people say with a little weight in the trunk and blizzak tires, the Rx8 performs better than most front wheel drive cars in the snow.. The thing of it is, you are going to spend a lot on the blizzak tires. I found a 92 jeep cherokee that I drive around the Fargo/Moorhead Area in North Dakota/Minnesota. I feel better keeping the Rx8 parked during some of the harsh winter months. In this area the snow hasnt been falling hard until early to mid december, so I drive it until then, and park it until around late march into april. I feel its worth storing it and not getting hit or slid into during the ice/snow weather.

just my 2 cents.

sell the stratus for 7K, get blizziaks, turbo the 8, live happily ever after.
