That is supposed to be the case, but I have never seen it done. Knock on wood. I've been catless for 2 yrs now. They will get your *** quick for parking lights and blinkers. White or Amber only in corners. No flashing white either. No colors. Here in Tulsa it's a $250 fine.

I just paid the guy a little extra and never asked to be honost. The inspection sticker "Taxes" are supposed to go to your registered county. I'm certain they just enter it into the computer and the computer doesn't reject it.
As for the tint problem go to your doctor and tell them you get headaches if your not wearing sunglasses or have tinted windows. Texas law states that with a note from a physician you can bypass Texas tint laws.

In certain cases, you may obtain department approval to place darker tint on your vehicle's windows. The department approves tint exemptions on a case-by-case basis.
Motorists may request a medical exemption for window tinting requirements from the Texas Department of Public Safety by sending a written request and a signed statement from a licensed physician or licensed optometrist. This statement should state that it is his or her opinion that the exemption is necessary to safeguard the motorist’s health.

I know it's a pain, but you should probably consider getting legal tint on the front windows. You may find a way to get around it this year, but you'll have to go through it every year. Plus, if you do get a ticket for an expired inspection sticker, it'll cost more to take care of that than to just replace the tint on the two front windows.
I've got 25% on the fronts and 10% on the back and the car looks blacked out in the middle of the day. And it definitely serves its purpose of keeping the car cool in the Texas heat.

seems a bit much to me. i think all past tint jobs should be grandfathered in. it's just ridiculous.

And if you have a receipt of the tint being installed before that date, you are grandfathered in. You'll just need to show the inspector. Here's the text of the bill:
SECTION 3. (a) The change in law made by this Act applies only to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this Act. For purposes of this section, an offense was committed before the effective date of this Act if any element of the offense occurred before that date.
(b) An offense committed before the effective date of this Act is covered by the law in effect when the offense was committed, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.

ah ok, at least you CAN be grandfathered in. no way in hell i kept a receipt from over 6 years ago, but the fact that it WAS approved the past years should be telling enough i think. oh well.
