What cars currently match the RX-8's ~178HP/L?

As above, what cars in serialized production today match or exceed the RX-8's HP per liter?

I'm kinda struggling to come up with examples...

Yamaha R1: 180hp/liter... Not a car, but just thought you'd like to know.

But seriously. Why does it matter? HP/L is a useless number to hang your hat on. I mean, seriously, torque is all that matters for get-up and go... And unfortunately, the RX-8's abysmal +/- 130 ft-lbs isn't going to make it lightnening fast on the straights anyways.

It doesn't matter...

It is a wankel, don't compare with others.
If you do, you better use 2.6 liters.

wards top 10 engine award classifies the renesis as 2.6L when it won the category a few years ago.
neways, hp/liter dosnt mean much in terms of real world performance or fuel economy.

Sounds like someone was bragging cuz his/her car was faster, and he came up with this as a way to one up the person. lol

If you want a comparison, do some real world comparisons like magazines do. Ricer math is FTL

I know it's not a great measure of perfomance. I was just curious. Jesus Christ. I don't even own an RX-8 (yet).

Also, can someone explain to me why the Renesis is classified by some in the 2.5-2.6L category?

because of the number of combustion events revolution when compared to a 4 cycle piston engine. there is a long thread by RG explaining all of this you should search for.

and this

which are still not telling the whole story. the engine is actually closer to 3.0 liter comparing the air it ingests etc but thats more typing than i wish to do

hp/lb is a more reasonable comparison of a cars performance.

the rx8 weighs in at ~14 lbs/hp.

lol.
