Road Atlanta Genesis Coupe Video

Very interesting footage. Car looks cool, composed and stylish. But more important in the footage shown, it's absolutely flat drifting around the circuit. I expected to see it floundering around on flabby SK style suspension. Not so....
This with the V6...306HP 266 ft-lb ....ummmmmm ...could be verrly interesting

Pretty cool vid - car looks better in motion. It looks to handle decently, have to take Millen's comments w/ a grain of salt though, as isn't he/RMR sponsored by Hyundai? Will be interesting to see how this car pans out.

That shot is very flattering. Nice.
The closet ricer in me loves the sound of the modified turbo in this thread:
http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-gen...ead.php?t=1430
The Brembo brakes look sick. If a fully-loaded V6 can do 0-60 in well under 6 seconds and come in at under $33K, it might be worth a look.
This car might surprise some people.

Other than that I am not impressed with the coupe, the car looks so much better in pictures than it does in person. Hyundai cheapness starts to rear its ugly head real quickly once you see the car in person.

That lowered red one from that angle almost reminds me of some of the storied Japanese sports cars from the mid-90s in some ways, especially the FD and Supra.
Also, for those of you that are curious, the Genesis Coupe's Brembros are actually a few tenths larger than the new 911's brakes. Should be able to stop a freight train!
Edmunds has already reported in their first drive that the thing is almost exactly like a G37, except the dampening/ride is harsher. They even called it "world-class"....

Pleasantly surprised they offer 'Track Models' for both 4 and 6 cycl editions with useful upgrades to brakes, suspension, and drivetrain. Nice also to see that from the getgo not wait 4 or 5 years to use the 'track version' as and EOL booster for a model as some manufacturers do ....

Could be a nice car. Good competition for the current breed, but nothing ground-breaking. I personally think Hyundai is 3-5 years late to the race but we'll see how the sales figures go...

I don't like the gearing for either cars, they should be a little more aggresive for the power that this car is putting out.
Here are the figures:
Turbo 4-cyl., 6-speed manual / 5-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC®
Gear ratios
6MT / 5AT
First
4.229 / 3.827
Second
2.467 / 2.368
Third
1.671 / 1.520
Fourth
1.233 / 1.000
Fifth
1.000 / 0.834
Sixth
0.794 / N/A
Reverse
3.985 / 2.613
Final drive
3.909 / 4.181
V6, 6-speed manual / ZF 6-speed automatic SHIFTRONIC®
Gear ratios
6MT / 6AT
First
3.848 / 4.171
Second
2.317 / 2.340
Third
1.623 / 1.521
Fourth
1.233 / 1.143
Fifth
1.000 / 0.867
Sixth
0.794 / 0.691
Reverse
3.985 / 3.403
Final drive
3.538 / 3.727
The V6 has some tall gearing , my guess Hyundai wanted to use this gearing to help in the mpg department. A stout V6 should usually be running 3.7-4.2 in the gearing department.

Some of you skeptics should put this into perspective. Five years ago, how many brand new 300+HP cars were on the market with Brembos, HIDs, LSD, 6 airbags, leather seats, 10-speaker audio, 10-year warranty, and 5 years of roadside assistance for a sticker price of $30K?
Yeah, about zero. And today? Still zero, until the Genesis Coupe arrives.
It is obviously not a perfect car. The styling is a little too "anime" and I'm sure there are some cheap trim pieces here and there, but it's not like its direct competitors (Mustang, Z, Camaro, basically any RWD coupe under $30K) are significantly better.
Hyundai deserves credit for what they've accomplished. It approaches G37 levels of performance and features for a sticker price of about $7000 less, and we know that the actual transaction price will be even lower.
It's going to be really hard to criticize this car's features and performance at its price point. I think people just tend to bristle because it's a Hyundai.
Of course the materials aren't going to be quite on par with a G37, but apparently the driving experience will be (see Edmund's InsideLine). And based on reports from Korea, the V6 model should do 0-60 in anywhere from 5.4 to 5.8 seconds, which backs up Hyundai's claim of "well under 6 seconds."
It isn't going to be able to match a 370Z in outright performance, but I wouldn't be scared to go up against a G37 and I wouldn't be ashamed to drive one myself. Is it answering a question that nobody asked? Maybe, but it seems to be a pretty good answer nonetheless.
EDIT: Also, the chrome headlights look really cheap. Thankfully, people have been bitching to Hyundai about this and it appears that the upper trims (Track models with HIDs) will have blacked-out headlight. This is semi-confirmed by some pics recently posted on the GenCoupe forum of a batch of Coupes that just arrived in port in California. Chrome headlights really suck, that's the only thing about the Genesis Coupe's styling that bothers me. But hopefully it's fixed. I wish Mazda would do the same with the 2009 RX-8...

Call me an #sshole, but the inside of Hyundais always felt cheap ( I just recently looked at them at my dealership) and this looks like a next gen Tiburon to me which isn't bad looking but still reminds me of the Hyundai of old (cheap).
They need to get away from anything that resembles their older line-up if they want to change their image, but there is no denying the Genesis' power. If Honda could come from it's humble beginnings and change it's image then maybe Hyundai can too.
But until they come out with a brand new look and nicer interior, I still won't buy it. Not hating, just my .02
