Go Texas Longhorns!
anybody notice the similarities between the engine bay of the new Miata and our cars? looks almost identical in terms of layout, similar airbox, battery placement, even engine position.
Obviously there is no rotary in there, but damn, lots in common which is good.

This is the car they have a pic of on the front page of the money section in USA TODAY(2/24). Says it will be out in early fall. Two inches wider and longer, 160hp.

That is really nice. Definitely has a European look to it. (and I mean that in a good way)
It's certainly more aggressive than the the current model, but somewhat elegant at the same time. I love the fenders. There seems to be a little Z4 flavor in there.

Lots of European in there, side does look like an A.M., HOWEVER.
They need to get rid of their fixation with ovals in the design. The buldge in the hood is ok, but the rounded front of the hood hurts the design IMHO, also they need to get rid of the oval like headlights and taillights, and make them much less altezza..... Oval front air dam, mustang-like steering wheel...... I like the orange interior unless of course that orange plastic on the underside of the dash......
The current mazdaspeed miata looks MUCH better, other then the wheels and the overall interior, i don't see an improvement.
Edit: wonder if thats a Ford idiot light, oil temp/pressure gauge in the middle between the tach and the speedo. If it is then I'd be pissed that its in the place of where my tach should be.

It just hit me. The front end looks a little bit like an Olds Aurora. I think it's the headlights. Maybe it's just me. I still like it. To me, it's a good evolution of the current model.

I really want to like it but,
- The whole geometric/Audi TT look is already getting old, I don't think this car will age very well.
- Altezza tail lights. Yuck.
- The roll bars look like they were stolen from a Z4. I mean literally stolen, as if a Mazda engineer saw someone's Z4 sitting in the parking lot and decided to simply rip out the roll bars and stick them in the NC.
I think it will be an excellent car to drive though, with the RX-8 suspension and increased rigidity. Is that 160PS just for the Euro version? I was hoping for a little more for the US version, like 170-180hp.
