I think this would give the Miata a run for its money if it comes out.

It's a Cavalier
I want to like it, but I can't. It just doesn't work with the MINI. I think it would be a horrible failure. Who would really crave having something like that?

The article says a estimated 2,600 pounds.

Yeah, I caught this too Zoom, IMO I think it will be a total failure, like most models that have come to fight the MX-5..
FWD!!!, is the wrong wheel drive...What are they thinking...
I would rather have a Daihatsu Copen (600 odd cc's and Turbo...I can't believe I said that)
OH Yeah, we all know the next gen MX-5/Miata will be a total radical redesign with a Turbo-ed 1.4 or 1.6 Litre 4 Cylinder engine that is totally designed by Mazda.

A lot of people won't care that it's FWD. If there's a SC'd version, maybe Mazda will come out with another Mazdaspeed Miata as a permanent option. Doubt it, 'though.

I use to own an 06 MX5 before i bought the RX8. The MX5 hands down is the $hit. I use to be a big follower of the Mazdaspeed MX5. There are many rumors floating around talking about a Mazdaspeed rotary MX5 or the turbo engine from the Mazdaspeed3. All we can do is wait.
I hope to own a Mazdaspeed MX5

I saw that VW concept awhile back. Not bad looking, IMO, but I promise if it ever makes into production for the US it will cost WAY more than a MX-5. Figure a loaded MX-5 (not hardtop) is around 30k. Id be willing to bet you will add at least 5k for a similarly equipped VW but at the same time the VW price would have to come in somewhere under the TT (which is also way overpriced)
But the VW concept is hot...the Mini has fail written all over it. I kinda like the evil snare on the front end of the VW...a lot better then the new Mazda smile. I think the VW could give the Mazda a run for it...IF is it competitively priced.

I really like the current shape of the MX-5 (Classic), and from what I hear the next gen will be a radical looking one with the smaller turbo 4, sorry, but I am just not that keen on Turbo anything, never have been actually.

Someone told to me that put a 2.3 DISI turbo into an mx-5 is not so easy....need several modification to that wall between engine bay and car interior (sorry don't know the word in english)
but not impossible....
