how popular is ae86 in states ?
i was just looking on a local auction site and just noticed ae86 is about the same price is an rx8 now lol.
i really don't understand why people love this car so much that they want to pay 14000us for one
i understand that it is a good car but i don't really get why people think it such a great drift car and it worth so much.
i would like to tell people that because on initial D they drift awesome it does not mean it is a best drift car infact it only got 130ps at gloss with old suspension only good thing is it light but what makes the car so crap is the price .
it pissing the crap out of for last few years is that some people think that it is a easy car to drift.

some consider it as a cult car, I still have mine from when I started drifting back in 2000. cheap (up until initial D blew up), lightweight, almost 50/50 weight distribution & very good aftermarket support. I wouldn't say that it's easy to drift but then again this is the very same car where I learned how to drift and then moved on to an FC and finaly the RX8, wherein a lot of people said that it's difficult to drift and yet I have no problem getting the 8 sideways.

off topic.
but i did see a 86 with a 13b in it on auto trader for 5 g.
i wanted it just to say i had one. but i didnt feel like spending 5 g's(take loan) just cause i wanted bragging rights

This just proves your crap statement is anything but correct and the AE86 is popular.

negative! If it wasn't popular, there wouldn't be a lot of aftermarket support for the car, It's over 20 years old and they're still coming up with new parts for it. In fact, the reason it's over-priced right now is because there's still a demand for it. Like I said, check club4ag.com and hachiroku.net... you'll be surprised on the number of AE86 enthusiasts all over the globe.

We will need to define what "popular" means to continue this discussion.

you got few things wrong
ae86 was a good car back in early 90's
you can not compare ae86 and rx-8
i mean my argument is that people buy ae86 for same prices an rx-8
which i total don't understand
rx8 drives way better then ae86 full stop

to me hachiroku was never attended to be a speed demon, was just used as a cheap FR car with lsd, that handled really good.
as for the pricing, i never looked into a hachiroku ever since i moved to the US. so i didnt know ppl where selling them at 10k+ (which is pretty stupid ). I would stick to a miata94-97 and come out extra cash for mods. So since you told me about the pricing of the 86 for the US, its a way overated car (pricing wise). since i am use to seeing 86 at 1000.00-2000 in japan.

when i hear ppl here in the US saying you have to own 86, s14, 350z, FD , R34 GTR, STI and EVo to drift i just laugh. because they must of watched to much of fast of furious movies.
because for starters , the STI, GTR, and EVo can drift, but its going to very hard to. i tried in my brothers evo for fun recently. i can only get wide ways and that was about it . but when i tell them , those cars are are RWD converted, they sware up and down that i dont know what i am talking about. they actually think those cars are awd, drifting in the D1 series. Its hard to argure with ignorance.
i ask them name me one GTR R32-R34 that is not RWD converted. and tell me why you only see Skyline GTS and GT and not the GTR in the D1 series. same with STI and evo, none of them are AWD. i feel these kids who watch these movies and anime need to research before taking a movie serioulsy. i think they see this on screen and say, i guess these are the cars i must have to do this.
