Alfa GT & RX8

Hi all,

Have been contemplating on some coupes recently.

Today, I've just test driven Alfa GT coupe. Really nice. Engine note and the feel of Italian design...

I'm just a little turn off for Rx8 as there weren't any test drives....
So hard to feel for it and really difficult to compare.

Here asking one and all RX8 experts to comment on this.

Even after driving the GT, I do feel towards the AT version of the RX8. Do wondering about the yearly maintenance cost of the car. I've absolutely no idea on that.

I do have a lot of questions on RX8, but reserved them for future...

Thanks!!

Rgds

Oh well.

Its kinda expensive too right? 150+?? Correct me if i am wrong...

I think it is solely up to you man. One is conti and the other Jap. Theres a lotta difference IMO. On yearly cost, the only good thing is the road tax - dirt cheap. Fuel, insurance, maintainence should all add up to be abt the same. Although i know servicing conti cars can be quite expensive.

I think u should pop by which u have indicated u would and let all the REAL OLD BIRDS talk to u. Hehe, i still young boy....kaka

Thanks!

One setback for RX8 is the inability to do test drives. Then the comment and feel would be more non-biased.

I think nett nett, maintenance costs for both Alfa and RX8 would be the same each year.

Need the feel for RX8.. hmm deperate??? hhahaha :o

Alfa is at a steep of about 156.8K
Drive and feel is ecstatic and very italiano... my fellow friends were in the car with me and were awed at the pace and feel of even the back seat and the drive...

Its about 30k more then RX8, and I have a nudge feeling not to let RX8 go at the moment. Hopefully the meetup coming weekend will be helpful to me in making up my mind. Should be purchasing a new car by oct end..

See you guys... and comments are very welcome!

recently one local car mag compared GT to RX8. Forgot which one. But think they gave more points to the GT...mainly cos of the styling. Think performance on par but GT wins on straight. Looks nice.... but personally am biased against Alfa... so... you know my opinion

30K?

Will u be gettin the 5 speed? MM's seeling for abt 140 Euro 6 speed. And if u get a type S JDM with some added accessories it will be abt 150 +/- 5K. Unless the price have dropped so much i am unaware of...:D

Cheers

Yo MadSumm! Y don't u show at the meet? Easier to chat in person!

Auto GOOD! :D Not that bad maintenance wise - only petrol, but what the hell - u only live once! RX still new... hopefully no surprises down the road from the gearbox. Wonder if it's cheaper since it's clutchless manual?

I think the Alfa looks real aggressive.. out of budget though..
I'm sure the alfa is real torquey and got lots of acceleration.
Heard realiability used to be a problem but dunno about now....was actually thinin about the alfa 147 selespeed before buying the 8 AT.

I used to drive an 156 for some years. great car! The platform is the same on both cars so the GT has to be a nice car too... On the other hand, it wasn't cheap to maintain it. I can't say for sure 'cause my 8 is still new (6k miles), but I think the 8's gonna be cheaper.

However the rx8 (6sp) can be compared only to the 3.2lt one. With the alfa you can go faster on highways (torque) but the 8 will come first in the bents. Like taka said, its good but only FWD and ESP won't come off completely (this is really bad), so pleasure is with the 8.

RWD vs. FWD
Rotary vs. Piston
Japanese vs. Italian quality
Custom vs. Derived chassis

Need I say more? The obvious winner and better car is the ALFA!

NOT!
