Dynotest results: 4AT

One of the good bros in Singapore just did a dyno at ST Powered last weekend. (Apologies for my crummy picture taking - smoke too much, hands shiver). In summary, the results were:

* Speed: 170kmph@6496rpm
* Power: 105.8HP@5491rpm
* Torque: 136NM@5491rpm

Pictures available on http://rxreviews.wordpress.com

Holy **** that's bad.

fwiw, my Miata, rated at 116hp at the crank put down 100whp w/ intake/header/exhaust and timing bump.

if you go and look at the website the dyno was only able to capture that "picture" of the powerband up to 5500rpm.... everyone knows the revs need to be a lot higher then that to kick it down.

They estimated they could have hit 130whp if the dyno went up to the proper rev range

For Auto, about 210hp as stated in the brochure. ON wheels, minus 50 = 160 ponies..

From the dyno test, 105 ponies came home at 5.50pm. so most probably at 7-9pm, the rest of the 55 ponies will find their way home..

Oh my god... are u serious? I dun think the 4 spd auto only 105hp...even if the
engine is a 4 port renesis? Did he turn off the dsc when he was doing the dyno?
Heard u can't get an accurate dyno wif the dsc on?

It stops at 5500 rpms. Is not accurate at all.

Yup, that's the thing with ST Powered..... they stop at 5500rpm, so you can't take the 105hp as gospel. but if you follow the linear curve and plot it on your own, even if you give a +10% allowance, it won't go past 150-160hp at 8500rpm, and i'm being generous

Why do they stop at 5500 rpm? Doesnt make sense and sounds like a waste of time and money.

In my opinion for rotaries, shld set @ between 7500 to 8000rpm as our rev meter is somewhere there.. well, maybe is just my preception.

Tan, agreed. they should take 7500-8000+ to be accurate. But you know ST Powered lah, everything also half farked one - machine also half farked ... lol.

Well, any other stock 4AT bros have done a dyno too? maybe would be good to compare.

I'm gonna do another dyno on the dynapack...let's see how it goes this time.

If the result still hovers around 100+whp...then I think we(AT ppl) can all forget about performance modding. Even Turbo Charging seems a little pointless now. I mean, how fast can it get? 150whp? No big deal right?

Most people who have seen this result say that something must be wrong with the dyno...well, I would love to believe that...but, I have a bad feeling that we are indeed short-changed in power...

If you look at the other AT dyno post by our bro in the US...he is only getting 149whp with exhaust+CAI+Interceptor-X EMS...and his stock baseline was 118whp(at 7200rpm). Which makes sense of the 105.8whp at 5491 rpm. People are also laughing at his figures with remarks like..."149 should have been your baseline!" or "maybe yours is a Replica RX-8!"

Question is....are the Rx-8 ATs REALLY that SLOW???!!! It sure didn't feel like 100whp to me! Will some bros out there solve this mystery by trying out the dyno at ST? Or could it be that my 2 yr old engine is dying on me?

Anyway, we shall see....

Are you saying that your car feel less or more than 100whp?

contrary to wat u said, ST POWERED dyno machine is one of the best and more accurate. However this dyno machine always give "disappointing" results to car owners. Well, they always say the truth hurts.....

As for Dynopack..... u will see ur car very "powerful".. however take it with a pinch of salt.

My car certainly feels a lot more powerful than just 100whp...or else I think I may need to go for a check-up on my butt...for inaccurate butt-dyno analysis

Most civics from 1997 onwards have at least 100whp. Just go for a drive in one. And at 1000kgs give or take. It should be faster off the line than a 1350kg 100 whp 8. But the 8 is definately faster than most civics.

And ifs its indeed 100whp. its only 47.6% of the power declared 210hp by mazda. Even factoring drivetrain loss, its bordering on industrial scamming.

Like i have said before, if it is indeed the case. AT owners should buy a vios instead, cheaper and faster.

Let me share with you my personal experience...

I went on a trip to Pasir Gudang for Saturday night sprints with the Celica club about 2 years ago, when I just got my 8. My car was totally stock back then and I assumed that the 8 should easily beat the SS2 AT(190bhp GT-S) or the SS1 AT(140bhp GT) at the very least....cos judging by the engine specs, our 8 is far superior. But to my horror, I lost to every single Celica that was there that night...SS1 AT or SS2 AT....our 8 AT just didn't stand a chance. I was using manual shifting up to 7500rpm and torque braking method for my launch.

Now....there is a good 70bhp difference in power between the SS1 and 8...go figure that out...

Then you need more torque..... Power on the wheel is always teling the truth, the brochure is a damn liar....
