Rotary Engine and Tax
As the rotary engine doesnt have a defined cylinder capacity (though it is nominally 1300cc) , how does this affect tax issues in the UK?
Vehicle Excise Duty (Road Tax)
Will we pay reduced rate road tax?
Fuel Expenses
If any of you claim business miles, at what rate will mileage be paid? My company pays 2 rates, up to 1500cc and over 1500cc.
Company Car
If any of you are having your RX8 as a company car, what will the emissions be?
I found a bit on the inland revenue site P11D form which states "Rotary engined cars which have no cylinder capacity" should be treated as over 2000cc for calculating company car tax %age (35%)

Good question -
In the old days , my RX7 had 2x578(?) cc rotors (designated 12A engine) - so total capacity was ~1150cc.
The car was rated as a '2.3' though. My guess is that the RX8 will be treated as a 2.6 litre engine in much the same way. (1308cc x2).
It was all to do with the fact that for all pistons to fire in a conventional engine the crank would do 2 full rotations. (so for a 2000cc car , 2 full crank rotations would burn 2000cc of fuel/air.
In a rotary the nearest to this was 2 full revolutions of the eccentric shaft , which requires each rotaor to 'fire' twice.
In short it may have less capacity but it uses it twice as much , hence they doubled the displacement.
Clear as mud ?
As an aside , my RX7 was exempt from emmissions at MOT time due to not being a 4-stroke petrol engine.... Wonder if RX8 will be.
