Nurburgring - RX8 times
Hi from Australia,
This is the first time I've posted in Europe.
Last Monday night on Top Gear - they had a session where they were driving a diesel jag - what a horrible excuse for a car around Nurburgring and it got me wondering whether anyone has driven the circut in an RX8...
How was it & what sort of times did you get :D
This is something i would DEFINATELY love to do...

Me! I've been round there in my '8...
See this thread and my website (scroll down) for pics, videos, etc etc.
The time I got in the videoed lap was about 10:40. I managed to get that down to around 10 minutes in later laps, but I wasn't timing it properly. I'm sure the '8 can go a lot faster round it, but I'm not a a good racing driver by any stretch of the imagination.
Ooo, and for a good story about what it's like to break down near the Nürburgring, see this thread I made.
Just to be clear - this is all just shameless self-promotion (read: showing off ) - everything here was done and posted by me!

Ten minutes is a pretty good time, but check this out:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...p+gear+transit
This is a clip from the BBC program "Top Gear":
Sabine Schmidt, a race driver? test pilot? very skilled driver tries to get a Ford transit van (i.e., small delivery van) around the Nurburgring in under 10 minutes. She's a little handicapped by the fact that the van does zero-to-sixty in 21 seconds. In her favor: she's made several thousand laps before in numerous high-performance vehicles.
Does she make it? Download and see!

Oh, and lots more interesting Top Gear clips on google video:
Evo rally car with rally driver versus bobsled
Lotus Exige versus Blackhawk helicopter
Evo MR FQ400 versus Lambo Murcielago

A vintage clip:

One question though - when the 10.28 mins was up the sound cut out but the vision kept on streaming - is this another lap or the same one or what (you're passed by 3 bikes in fairly short order)?
Thanks for sharing.

under 11 nice!
You made it around Nurnburg in under 11 in your Rex that's pretty good, don't be ashamed about the bikes passing you on the Staights, you can always take them in the turns even if you have to drift around them.... I did! Were exactly did you start your times from and were did you end it because of the Toll booth and the slow down area, before it you have to get a reasonable spot to get clocked at in the hight speed straight before you need to start slowing down

What i was told at the track for timing purposes you go from the first overhead sign when you get on the track to the overhead sign when you get to the straight stretch at the end of the lap.
I'm waiting to get my videos off of my Camera but i have laps close to 9:30 or so.

found a cool vid of an rx8 turning a lap at Nurburgring on youtube. The driver/passenger sound like good 'ole southern boys like myself.
The ring taxi's just FLY by in full attack mode, its great.

If not already posted nice pictures of a good French RX8 driver beating Audi RS4 and Porsche at Nurburgring. Only tires and cat back are aftermarket parts
