Sweet video man. Really digging your fuel setup, I was worried about how to create a bulkhead to seal off the entire trunk area but now I'm just going to do what you did, way easier haha.

Good to see another track build getting out on track... super jealous.

One question, is that weight the competition weight with you in the car?

Great build and congrats on the 2014 placing.

Hoping to swap to the newer chassis one of these days.

The new track is absolutely awesome for RX8's, and we ran it today with no kink on the south west side of the track (where I got loose in the video) and its even more fun...but requires massive ***** & a capable braking system! This track is the perfect excuse for RX8 owners to get out to the track. It suits our car perfectly because you're virtually always in a corner so the RX8's superior handling really shines.

This was the first weekend out with the car, and I must say the DTC-60 pads grab really hard initially which I still don't think I'm used to after 2 days of running. I don't think my brake rotors are used to it either...brand new set of rotors...good bye! time for some cooling ducts...

Arca_ex, that weight is full of fuel, with no driver. I corner balanced & aligned the car at 1/4 tank which is how I was running the car this weekend, and it weighs 2546lbs in that configuration. I weigh 190lbs for argument's sake

We ran a slightly different layout for event 2 which was still boatloads of fun! Won my class again pretty handily, but was 3rd overall, just .2 back of 1st!

The car is pretty hammered for being on 17's, but that noise is the aluminum box vibrating behind the camera. Trust me, I went nuts looking for a tire rub, but its just the box luckily

Got the chance to hit the track again this weekend with the car on the Grand Prix Track at CTMP, and it was a fun weekend being the only rotary once again! I improved 3sec over my best time there last year, which was mainly due to how much easier the car was to drive with its current alignment. Last year the car was very on edge, but this year I ensured the car had a bit less initial turn in, and the bump steer has been removed as well. Ohh...and the car was down about 300lbs too which doesn't hurt

While the car was a huge improvement over last year, I am still going to make some changes mid-season now that I've had the chance to drive at this track which I am pretty comfortable at. I'm going to increase my spring rates all around, have the up-travel in the suspension (both front and rear) reduced, and have the shocks re-valved to match my new spring rates. The car just has too much body roll, and washes out mid-corner under heavy load.

Enough of my rambling...here is a video! Probably one of the fastest RX8 laps around this track with street tires...

Awesome videos and build man. Surprised you are not running a cage though.

I will be cutting out the roll bar and installing a full cage this winter. I knew early on that I wasn't going to keep the roll bar that is currently in the car....it just does the trick for now. At the time, some series frowned upon full cages which I've always thought was stupid

I can't say I've noticed anything with the flywheel/clutch combo to be honest. The diff made a huge difference, and I think its one of the best mods I've done to the car!

I'm just running on street tires as per my class rules...Hankook RS3 version 2 in 255/40/17

Well, I took a step in the right direction with this build recently. Its going to be a slow process as I want to do it right, but it will get done!! Its a 13G engine (not a typo), and it came with a dry sump

Sweeeeet.

If it is the factory front cover style dry sump just keep an eye on oil pressure. Have heard of a lot of high RPM oil pressure issues with those when the oil pumps start to get out of spec since they are on the small side.

This build will be exciting.

I can't take the credit for finding it, as a friend told me to contact this person who had one, and was looking to sell it. The rest as they say, is history.

It is the front cover style dry sump setup, and from my understanding, this is going to be one of the bigger hurdles with this engine, as well as finding some of the unique parts it uses. Like I said, it will be a slow process just acquiring parts, but an exciting one nonetheless!!

I highly doubt the stock RX8 transmission will hold, but I'm debating giving it a try until it breaks. I'm not overly hard on transmissions, so I might just take that risk knowing full-well it might not/probably won't work.

I am doing the same thing with my car regarding the transmission. I'll use it until it breaks, I would be surprised if it made it longer than two events before it grenades. I'll be up around 400 to 600 WHP depending on boost.

This is the most affordable racing solution I could find so far and is rated to about 600ft-lbs if I recall correctly, not sure what your class rules are regarding dog engagement though.

The brake rotors were custom made by a company called Coleman Racing. They are a small company so the customer service is incredible, and they truly stand by their products. They walked me through a more robust break-in process for their rotors, and I've been running them all season without any issues after the one at the first event.

put the rx8 trans on it. I think it might surprise you. if it lasts half a season, thats half a season to prepare your pockets for the next trans

I think this thread is due for an update. With my car not selling yet again, I decided to make a slight change of plans with my build, however I'm still excited for it! Thanks to Marco (thewird) for getting me in touch with Goopy to buy the 3-rotor, but its unfortunately not going to happen in my car anytime soon for a variety of reasons. Hope to hook up with RX-Tuning down the road sometime soon as I'm thankful for the help and guidance Marco provided to get the ball rolling on my project.

I won my class in Ontario Time Attack, and finished 3rd overall which wasn't such a bad season. I set new personal bests at every track I went to, and was very proud to be able to run a 1:37.0 on the Grand Prix Track at CTMP on street tires!! I was also able to run a 1:20.9 at TMP/Cayuga on street tires as well.

I decided to build a 13B PP instead with the generous help of Jim @ Jimmy K Rotaries, and Joe (formerly RPM). The ECU side of things hasn't been decided yet, but the rest of the build is pretty straight forward. We'll be reusing only the eccentric shaft from my RX8 motor, and while there were discussions with Jim around using the 10:1 rotors form the RX8, he decided to stick with old reliable and run 9.7:1 rotors. We will be making PP housings from S5 housings, and will use FD RX7 irons.

I'm really looking forward to pulling apart my first rotary engine, as well as spending the time with Jim to learn all the nuances of rotary engines. Porsche flat-6's and small block Ford V8's have dominated much of my life, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how my triangle engine survived the last 9 years of abuse!!

More pics to follow...
